They were rated in high school by how they performed on the field. If they didn't see much action so far in college, I can only surmise the rating services are rating them on the fact they didn't crack the starting lineup. Not disparaging the ratings, but it doesn't seem they would have much more than that to go on.Quick went from 0.9789 to 0.8700. Tchio from 0.9545 to 0.8800.
This offensive lineman was All Ivy League, is in the portal, and is from Marietta. Just not a tackle.Would love to get another Offensive tackle and a kicker who can show Aidan the ropes instead of throwing him in as a freshman.
Thank you. That is exactly how the thread was going. I looked at the list and thought two things. 1) It’s a good list on paper. 2) Realistically we will be fortunate if half of them start for us.I agree and I think that is the point iceeater and many, if not all, others have been making! We are glad they are here and we are all hopeful that they can contribute in a positive way.
I have always thought the purpose of a high school rating was to rate their potential for effective college play. The higher the star ratings the higher the potential to perform in college. Hence, percentage wise, the higher the “hit rate” is for higher ranked high school athletes. Readjusting a high school ranking after we see a player’s college performance is a “new art” for the services. Can you image Shaq Mason as a graduate transfer? He would have gone from a 2 star high school prospect to a 5 star transfer. They were rated in high school by how they performed on the field. there’s two spots on the o line likely vacating and the 3 remaining are nothing special. i think rotation guy is underselling tchio and quick a lot. would not be surprised to see them playingI look at this list and think about the impact these guys could make:
QB Zach Gibson (Akron) - Probably the #2 qb, but potential for PT is high
RB Hassan Hall (Louisville) - Lots of PT; likely KO and punt returner
RB Jamious Griffin (Withdrew name) - Probaly #1 or #2 RB; I am happy he decided to stay.
TE Luke Benson (Syracuse) - Possible starter
OL Paul Tchio (Clemson) - Rotation guy; future starter
OL Pierce Quick (Alabama) - Rotation guy; future starter
CB Ahmari Harvey (Auburn) - Future starter
S Khari Gee (ND) - Maybe starter this year; future starter for sure

Right. Barring injuries, I’m looking for those two to start day one. Thought the same about Ken Kirby too though…there’s two spots on the o line likely vacating and the 3 remaining are nothing special. i think rotation guy is underselling tchio and quick a lot. would not be surprised to see them playing
I certainly hope you guys are correct. We need them to both live up to their 4* rankings from the start. But, Kirby immediately comes to mind and I was dead wrong about him.Right. Barring injuries, I’m looking for those two to start day one. Thought the same about Ken Kirby too though…
You weren't wrong - he just got injured. Could happen to anybody.I certainly hope you guys are correct. We need them to both live up to their 4* rankings from the start. But, Kirby immediately comes to mind and I was dead wrong about him.
He goneIs Kirby around another year or is he gone?
Barring injuries and breakouts from unproven guys, this might be our OL ATL going into week 1.

There is enough size and experience on that list such that A) it appears we have the pieces now to be a lot better than what we have seen and B) it is not necessary that we automatically start the transfers out of desperation. If they beat out the guys in front of them then that's fine. But they don't have to be our starters and can just provide depth (it's rare when we have THAT!).Barring injuries and breakouts from unproven guys, this might be our OL ATL going into week 1.

This is interesting. We will have a very young OL in 2022 and that does not bode especially well. Or, are we old enough?

I think this is a bit misleading because of the extra Covid year. Everybody on this list outside of Franklin and Leftwich will be in at least their 3rd year on campus, which would effectively make all of them juniors or redshirt sophomores. 3 of the projected starters (Pendlay, Minihan, Quick) will be in their 4th year or older, and Jordan Williams has already been a starter for 2 years. There should be plenty of experience, maturity, and talent to field a competent OL, one that’s at least average for an FBS team. If there’s not then there’s some serious issues up top with that groupThis is interesting. We will have a very young OL in 2022 and that does not bode especially well. Or, are we old enough?
