Maybe I'm alone here, but I don't understand all the vitriol directed at MBob. If Vandy offered more than we could, how is that MBob's fault? Brainedead, yes, but MBob? I just don't buy it. Apparently, IMHO, Drew was a coward and took the easy way out. What was MBob supposed to do? Abduct him?

If I was a coach looking to move, would I come to GT knowing now that I wasn't the first, second, third or even fourth choice unless it is a huge step up for me? Someone like Pat Kelsey would come now if hired... What a letdown it would be..

Goodness. Left for lunch and it sounded like Drew was on the cusp for GT. And now Vandy is about to hire a coach their fans would be disappointed in. GT's first choice who looks to stiff arm us is Vandy's disappointing hire.

What the hell happened to GT basketball?!! Waiting for someone to tell me I returned from lunch to a parallel universe...

So how is Drew a coward? You guys are so stuck in the 90s that you can see the forest for the trees. Vandy is a good job and if you can get a couple of players like Stallings did he'll be the the Tournament EVERY Year. Who wouldn't take a job for the same pay but less work or less resistance

He's a coward because the competition he will face in the SEC is FAR INFERIOR to what he would have faced in the ACC. You think he didn't take the easy way out? HA !!
You say, "Who wouldn't take a job for the same pay but less work or less resistance?" A REAL MAN wouldn't do that.

Imo not much has changed (outside of the bad look GT is getting in the "He chose Vandy over GT" articles). Most people were concerned with Drew's ability to recruit, so to me the importance is still the recruiting coordinator to see if we can pull in the local kids. No matter the hire (unless the hire is a known recruiting czar), the staff hires will be extremely (and maybe moreso than the head guy) important.

I don't think it's as dire as Mbob possibly losing his job, but interesting question:

People keep making the point that Football is still king here so if the AD messes up the Basketball hire, is that enough for him to lose his job?

Also, Pat Kelsey's trajectory is very similar to those of mid-major guys that get hired, so he wouldn't be a bad choice if it comes down to it.

Eh, Winthrop made the tournament 9 out of 12 years before Kelsey was hired. They're 0-4 with him at the helm. Perhaps he'd do well, but there's no reason to believe so based on his track record.

I think one thing that would be fair to criticize MBob over is if he cut Capel loose before the Drew deal was finalized. We'll probably never know for sure exactly how it played out, though.

The reports are that Drew was MBob's first choice, and MBob said money wasn't going to be a factor. And he apparently cut ties with Capel before he had a deal in place.

He's a first time head coach and has improved his record every year leading to a 1st place finish this year. Just don't think it makes sense to discredit someone on record alone. He was one of the top assistants in the country at Wake and Xavier

Not saying he's the guy, I just think this is as good a time as any to take a chance on someone for a few years until all the funds are cleared up and then take another shot at a big fish (as none seem available).
