Do you have the numbers from other teams / previous years at the same time? Your rep max ebbs and flows. Interested to see what it looks like next year at the same time points. Obviously it’s gonna peak out after your conditioning season (aka right now). Also doesn’t help that we’re light on OL/DL right now.
Thrilled we have Lew and more importantly the players love him. His was of making workouts fun is very creative/smart. But I’m also always weary of taking random numbers released and making broad conclusions without context.
Those numbers are not going to be posted. You could look at the NFL draft numbers, google the average 1RM max by position for college athletes - I think a few dated studies should pop up for this, you can also google other strength topics related to college football athletes and checkout a CSCS book.
If our defensive/offensive linemen cannot rep 225 - 20 times, that means their 1RM is probably less than 340-350lbs. Someone who can rep 225 - 20 times should be able to 1RM 390. So you do not think I making these numbers up - there are charts for this stuff. Also, you rep max, which I think is 3 reps for the team shouldn't ebb and flow by 50lbs, more like 5-20lbs. Nutrition plays a very important role, here.
While benching 350lbs is strong compared to the average man or rower
, it isn't that strong compared to the defensive lineman bull-rushing you in the 3rd quarter when you are tired and need that push strength and vice-versa on the defensive side for our players trying to get past a 320lb+ offensive lineman. Winning starts in the weight room. Poor strength is not the reason why our defensive looks like it is being manhandled last season or years prior but it does play a factor in the grand scheme of things.
So yes, it is uncomfortable that only 7 players can rep 225 - 20 times.
