This is why I believe in playing backups at all positions when things aren't going well. Some guys can get it done on the practice field but cannot when it's real. Apparently the other two guys must have looked better at practice than this kid. Sometimes change will help you find the guys who may not look as good in drills but can get things done when the bullets are flying.

I would think this would apply particulary to placekickers. I'm thinking getting your nerves under control is a big part of it. Kicking with your teamates and coaches around vs kicking with the stands full of people is a great contrast.

BTW I'm so jealous of Clemson's KO man. Puts it out of the end zone most times. That is the best coverage .

Thanks, I don’t know that I had heard that term associated with the pulling of a scholarship [ though frankly don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it so maybe I had] and appreciate the clarification.

I think pulling scholarships is a pretty rough outcome generally speaking. If I am not mistaken Wesley is only being considered for PK right? As in Coach is happy with punting and KO duties as split this weekend? If so, I know having kickers as scholly athletes is relatively uncommon so would be curious what percentage of teams have 3 scholarships consumed by a PK, KO specialist and Punter separately.

Sorry, as much as I emotionally agree with you, that's just never been the way Tech has done things, and I don't look for that to change now. If he doesn't want to kick, then I'm sure there are other things we could assign him to, and if he doesn't like that, then he can simply be encouraged to leave.

Actually, it IS possible to know if it's true. All you have to do is to look back over Tech's history, at least since Dodd, who absolutely refused ever to pull a scholarship.
