The ACC will delay the start of competition for all fall sports until at least Sept. 1

I think this testing protocol is unlikely to be in wide distribution for the Fall football season. That's less than a month away for some. But, what it does is make the Spring football season an almost certainty. A smart move by the ACC would be to have a 3-4 game mini-season beginning in early October, then moving to an eight game Spring season. They might even be able to have fans by that time.

For me, as my favorite sport is college basketball, this a bright ray of sunshine for the 2020-2021 season.

This is probably a good take. The EUA makes it available for emergency use. It does require it be taken by a qualified healthcare professional and can only be used at qualified and trained clinical laboratories. So it likely will take some time to set up and become widely used and move beyond hospitals and healthcare facilities.

So linemen are not in close proximity with other players while playing the sport? You answered no.

And football players do not play competitive sports? You answered no.

That wasn’t your question. You’re also arguing with yourself.

Season is going to get harder to have if college students act like college students. I think most college SA's are working really hard to have a season but they are not being helped by their fellow students.

Yep, like we’ve been saying on here. It’s not the football that is the problem.

Another “politician” caught lying or media lying? When are people going to learn these people have now been trained in misinformation. You can‘t believe damn near a single thing they say. Honesty and integrity are words they should just strike from the dictionary.
Or maybe Brando lying.

That doesn’t mean it’s not 8-6. He could mean the vote was ridiculous at 8-6 because people had changed their minds, or it should have been unanimous, or many other things. The previous couple sentences basically confirm that main story.

It's pretty clearly saying the report of an 8-6 vote is ridiculous.

Not sure how "fans in the stands" is going to reasonably possibly infect the players and coaches "way down" on the field.

I understand possibly infecting those around them, but not the players. So... why not allow fans in the stands for those willing to attend with a mask?

Because once again as with so many of their other decisions, none of this has anything to do with the health and safety of the players.

Having fans in the stands is not about student athletes getting sick. It is preventing super spreader events in the community and that is why large crowds will likly not be allowed. A fan saying they are willing to waive their rights in getting sick is not good enough because that fan does not live in a bubble. That fan interacts with dozens of other people.

In what might be a harbinger of what to expect from GT, The Falcons and Atlanta United have announced they will have no fans in the stands through at least September.

South Carolina’s numbers (after ****ting the bed in June) continue be stellar. On July 10th we hit our peak of 2200 new daily cases and have trended down ever since. Yesterday we were a little over 500 and today we were 450. The noise from schools like Clemson and South Carolina to play football is going to get louder and louder. Our cases were 5x as high just 5 weeks ago. Let’s play some damned football!

I’ve seen some of what you’re talking about on Twitter. Seems there is a growing voice for UNC to go all online. Does that, if it occurs, jeopardize the ACC’s football hopes?

Not safe for work headline:

online version of article:

UNC announces it is switching undergraduate courses to 100% online effective Wednesday.
Students can cancel contracts with Carolina Housing with no penalty and residents with hardships will have the option to remain on campus

Question for you:

How many sudden deaths from myocarditis have we had in the US? How many under age 50 deaths/disabilities have we had from it?
Thanks.

In about 3 years, I think I could give you a reasonable answer to this question. Certainly not before football would start.

And when they retest those 45 how many will come back negative? Numbers are being thrown around to the point they mean nothing. We had a kid on my sons high school football team a month ago test positive in the morning. Since he was going to be shut down for 14 days and possibly the entire team his dad took him to another facility the same day and he tested negative. The next morning they drove to another town, got tested and was negative again. That’s happened many times to people I personally know. These tests just aren’t very accurate so when I hear one party caused 45 positive tests my first thought is the test center they all probably used is bad.

What people? List them (not names). I'm not trying to be a ****. It's just that I've seen statements like these readily defeated when it turns out, well my "sister's friend" or "person who goes to church with my cousin", etc., and sometimes each of those cases were actually people reporting the same rumor over and over.

That said, there are significant false negative cases. Once again, false negative. Not false positive. False positives on these tests could come from: 1. contamination or 2. fraud. I would say that both of those would represent extremely serious problems that I won't believe are happening without actual proof.

So if that happened to someone you know, what I would say is likely what happened is that the first test that was taken represents the phase of infection. Either too early so that there isn't significant viral shedding in the nasopharynx to reliably detect or that in fact he had recovered from the infection and had persistent but not clinically significant (at least we think not clinically significant) virus present.
