I wouldn't say we were "great" at any time last year. Vandy was probably our best all around game imo tho.

We looked pretty good against Kentucky, but it was pretty much the Dedrick show. Might be what you see against UT, but if I were scheming against us in game one this year I'd force the pitch.

@tech_wreck47 your summation about our defense is accurate imo. Corners are weak, but 3 seniors to fill 2 spots makes me hopeful for improvement and new DB coach. LB's are recruited to fit a 4-2-5 scheme so they're all considered athletic, but I think our starting MLB will be 100% healthy for GT. I feel we have the ability to adapt with the nickel/hybrid LB position. A few players that can tackle and cover. Basically, I don't know who is going to play where, but I'm excited with all the possibilities. My best guess for GT game would be: DE- Kongbo, and Phillips/D. Taylor DT- Vickers/A. Johnson, McKenzie/Piccou WLB- McDowell/Sapp (watch out for this guy) MLB Kirkland Jr. Nickel-Gaulden CB- Wiggins, Martin/Mosely SS-Warrior FS- Kelly Jr. (Brant Mitchell's buddy and HS teammate)

Your perspective is interesting and imo in opposition to the reasoning the SEC has been lauded by the majority of the media as the premier conference over the last dozen years.

I'm wondering how much of the SEC struggles recently are due to Saban-fatigue. Yes, the SEC is a good conference, a premier conference. But coaches may be avoiding it because who wants to take on Saban when there are better outcomes elsewhere.

I hate it for Chance, but I'm glad he has the opportunity to spend some time to actually be 100% healthy. He came in from high school after a ruptured Achilles, and was playing on a bad knee all last year that really affected his lateral movement. I'd be ok with Kendrick at RT as long as Richmond can hold down that LT spot. After Kendrick I'd like to see Tatum. He may still be a little undersized, but it may be better than Thomas moving from C to the edge.

Watching the UNC game is worthless. UT doesn't have a fraction of the offensive fire power of UNC. I hate UNC for a lot of reasons but they are a damn good offense and offensive have owned us for the past few years. I don't even expect to stop UNC anymore. I just want to score more than them.

Also, conference rankings are everything that's wrong with college football today. And I mean everything. From fans, media, other coaches, etc. You can pretty much pinpoint almost everything that pisses you off to so called "this is the best conference in football this year" BS.

Bleacher Report just listed their opinion of the best conferences. 1 - 3 were SEC, Big 10, ACC. I guess the ACC will never get any respect, but at least we are at the top now.

Their offenses are very similar and UT had a more efficient offense than UNC last year.

I somewhat agree with this. For the most part, if you don't bring your A-game, anybody can beat anybody on any given day, and conference affiliation means nothing. As for me, touting ACC conference superiority isn't so much of a conviction as it is my way of refuting the incessant SEC bias of the media and all of my friends. Everyone brags about the tough SEC schedule, and our recent ACC vs SEC head-to-head record allows me to give 'em Hell.

It is all laid out for us to go 4-0 against the SEC east. I have to admit that I have seen my share of "watershed" Tech games and have been disappointed more often than not. Hope a change is in the wind.
