4shot, I'm not suggesting that tere was a lack of effort. It just seems to me we play sharper football if the opponent is a big name team. The team that played today didn't look like the team that played Georgia and Miami.

There was a blatant hold on their oline on the same play that our db got called for a defensive hold. It was egregious, but it went uncalled, and the announcers didn’t say a word either.

Not to mention being gifted a red zone possession in the first place. I'm fixated on that time in the game because it mentally broke us. Whatever followed is tainted in my eyes.

KG, I think you are conflating two things here...the officiating and the QB. case in point, the refs call an unsportsmanlike penalty on the guy for throwing the ball into the stands. Now they have 2nd and 21 instead of second and short somewhere near the 10. This is sometime in the late 3rd when things are getting chippy. No QB or offense can convert on 2nd and 21 right? This guy leads his team to a TD. You have to play each play as if it is the beginning of the game. I think we agree that is hard to do, especially for young men barely out of their tteens.

You don't think playing a real team in a meaningful bowl doesn't result in the team practicing better? I get you have to beat the team you're playing not the one you want to play, but it does factor in. We got hosed at the cesspool & consequently got jobbed on our bowl. That had a cost, they you show up in Birmingham and get hosed again. Just not right and this team did not deserve what has been done to them.

I know it can be a factor, but it shouldn’t be, because it’s a lame, looser mentality, and if that’s the mentality, then the team certainly doesn’t deserve to play a better team than the one they can’t beat because they don’t want to. I get what you’re saying, and I agree that it happens, but it doesn’t happen to winners. Winners win, and when they don’t, they own it.

For only the first time in his life, Root is correct. LOL. Just kidding Root. Vandy is a good football team. Teams that beat them stopped their QB, which we could not do.

Like King Pavia was beat up late in the season effecting his play. He was healthy today unfortunately. Vandy’s defensive scheme was good. Don’t let King run. It worked.

Losses suck obviously, but hopefully it’ll help reset fan expectations. We are far away from a playoff caliber team and we don’t have the resources to retain elite players or acquires them out of the portal.

No way to tell which was the better team. Give that whole string of poor ref calls to us and we’d make them like terrible.

Two consecutive terrible momentum-shifting calls. If you think the matchup was pretty evening that’s a pretty hard shift to overcome.

Personally I don’t think the matchup was very even but GT plays down to opponents all year. See NCST, UNC, etc. which lets stupid stuff like this cost you.

Not the reason, but having the ball on the 35, down 1 vs the 2 and a 3rd down PI that led to a TD were a big part of it.
