Seems like people on here tend to fall into 3 categories about the game:
1. Refs robbed us.
2. Vandy is a tough team and not easy to put away.
3. We suck and it’s all our fault we lost.

I’m kind of stuck between 1 and 2 myself. I felt all along that Vandy was about the worst matchup we could have drawn and I was dreading a loss. The stupid refereeing made the game ten times harder.

Not sure why anyone who leans toward 3 even bothers to follow the program.
I would rank them: 2 well above the other two and then 1 slightly above 3. We don't suck but we lost our minds for a stretch and it did cost us! 1 and 3 are inextricably linked.

I don’t think we suck at all, but do think it’s our team’s fault that we lost, we played not great, possibly the game planning or play calling wasn’t the best. I know this is cliche’ to say after you lose a bowl game but I think we had a hangover from the uga “loss” and nobody was very fired up about a bowl game in freaking Birmingham vs. freaking Vandy, the team played hard and showed fire, but it wasn’t what we saw vs Miami or uga, and not what we would likely have seen in a decent bowl in Florida vs. a compelling opponent. I worry that we lost some of our good vibes that were built during the season vs fsu, miami, uga by ending the season on such a crappy note

That sounds like excuse making 101! We got beat by a solid team. We lost our composure (HC and players) when a couple of bad calls went against us. Can't do that against a peer team that is playing well.

I was wet and disgusted with the game results at the time but after watching the tape I see that we played well enougn to win if you could relive the 10 minutes following 13 minutes into the 3rd quarter. The two turnovers conmbined with the bad reactions we had to the ref calls cost us the game. Vandy was a solid team. Hope the players and coaches learned a hard lesson.

When behind late in game throwing midrange passes into wind on wet field is not a good situation. Need to have more chuck plays early. When we came out of lightning delay, we had wind and even in rain moved down field. Imo, refs allowed to much holding by vandy ol on our dt. Biggers was a beast after the delay but was held as he broke threw to chase qb. Almost got him.

Will the 25 gt dl and de and db be mediocere? Lot of new faces. Offense better score.

I've come to the conclusion that King is a really good but not great, TOUGH QB. I love him. He's our dude. But I feel like the ceiling is higher with a younger QB on the roster.

I hope he has a great season and rips it up next year.

I think Key and his team reacted so badly because they had just been through it in the UGAg game and had the game ripped off from them. Still, a sore wound that got whacked again.

And, I hate to say it, but the coaches who just quietly take it get run over game after game. And coaches who go ballistic seem to get more favorable calls in the long run.

I've been thinking this for a while, but my comparison is King to Tahj Boyd. He consistently made Clemson a winner and then Watson (Philo for us) came in and took them to the next level. The team got better around Watson too which I think is happening for us. But in my opinion, there is no national championship for Clemson without Boyd laying the foundation first. I believe that King is doing that for us, and hopefully, he can do more than that next year and have us contend for the ACC.

They were the better team this game. We had no answer for their QB and they did a good job defending ours. Jamal was great for us and played like he was on a mission. We still can't run up the middle. Sorry the seniors that opted to play didn't go out with a win.
I definitely agree that Vandy won the game. Pavia was really good and we definitely missed Efford. I was already concerned about Pavia before I knew Efford was out (glad he had the needed surgery already!) and when I heard he wasn’t able to play I was even more worried. Turnovers also killed us.

And you also nailed it with Jamal! What a performance. By him all around.

Well said. We'll see how it shakes out next year
