So how do people feel about Brent Key and Geoff Collins-

If someone steps up and gives us good QB play I think we can make a run at the coastal this year.

I think the scheme change with Woody last year will actually pay off some next year. The Dline started shooting gaps and stunting more and I’m pretty certain this will continue with CGC / Thacker. That learning curve won’t be as steep next year if so.

I think a 3-3-5 is the best fit for our personnel next year. Two issues with that though. Number one is a lack of a big powerful MLB to attack the opposite Agap from what the nose attacks. The second is corner cushions. Most 3-3-5 corners play off the ball and don’t play press cover. A lot of zoze coverages like cover 3 are prevalent in 3-3-5s. CGC has said we will play a lot of, maybe primarily, press cover at corner. So I’m intrigued how this plays out and what scheme we do use. God knows fans will have meltdowns the second we don’t play press man. (Some teams actually succeed with playing with cushions but that’s another discussion)

So imo we have our biggest question mark on O at the most important position. The rest of the pieces can certainly succeed at a fairly high level if we get solid QB play. I think we can.

On D the scheme we will use is a question that creates further questions. Pass rush off the edge and LB play being the biggest. How these are resolved will determine our level of success.

I won’t be shocked if we manage ten wins and I won’t be shocked if we only manage 5. Crazy huh? That’s football.

I will be shocked if we win more than 7 but that is just me. Your explanations regarding the defense are informative and interesting. I don't think we have the personnel to run a true press coverage on the corners but maybe that is because we haven't tried. Let's give it a try and see.

“I didn’t come here to play school!”

One “elite” had the balls to say it out loud in front of reporters.

Interesting. I had whole classrooms of students who "did not come here to play school". Alas, they were elite only in their opinions of themselves, everything else was decidedly marginal as subsequent events would eventually prove.

Reading some of y’all argue on every thread is so exhausting lol

By all means, keep it going. I’ll add my 2 cents to keep things rolling..

CPJ WAS THE GREATEST COACH SINCE THE LAST GREAT TECH COACH. COLLINS IS ALL HYPE! LETS SEE HIM WIN 11 GAMES AND BEAT uga 3 TIMES!

CPJ WAS OLD AND OFFENSE SUCKED. COLLINS HAS JUICE AND A COMPLETE TURNAROUND FROM CPJ. CANT WAIT TO SEE A REAL DEFENSE! WAFFLE HOUSE!

Could you be just a little clearer and more precise?

If (I think it’s going to be more like “when”) Collins & Key bring in a top 20 recruiting class some of these board members collective heads will explode.

“But, if, we can’t, don’t have, see when I believe it, realistic, expectations”. Cry. Cry. Cry.

Good God stick a thermometer in your butt & STFU.

Agree but it is not just the Collins and Key show. Coach Collins has brought in a whole crew of go getters who are from all appearances relentless in going after recruits that we would not have had a snowball chance in hell of getting. I am beginning to wonder just what these guys are wired on.

No source, completely speculative. Maybe I should have made that more clear in the original post.

I don't know either but Tommy Bowden and those coaches prior to him did not have trouble getting good players. Clemson has had very good talent for a long time but perhaps not quite elite as they do now. They are getting more out of their talent than most programs too.

Who knows if attitudes will change or not because the attitudes of a lot of folks here seems to be quite ossified one way or the other.

When you get old, like me, these things just happen. You come to expect things to continue as they always have with Tech and you are reluctant to admit that perhaps, this time will be truly different. One thing is for sure, I have never seen a Tech coach literally take Atlanta by storm like he has. The excitement and energy of Coach Collins and his staff is infectious and his ability to connect with football players is undeniable. Whether that truly moves the needle in terms of wins and losses is yet to be seen and won't be known for several years IMHO.

New to the group, 08' Grad...What do I think? I'm all the way turnt up! We win another National Championship before that lesser in-state school does. We beat Clemson in August. The single greatest thing hurting Tech's recruiting is not academics...It's our "cautiously optimistic" fan base. Recruits don't want to come online and see that. Put me and my boys on the field with any team in the world and I'm going to think we're going to win...until we don't. That's what this coaching staff believes and if your athletes believe that too then magical things will happen regardless of rankings. Back that by a fanbase that jumps on the bandwagon and turns the hype volume all the way up and no one can stop you. We are in the state with the greatest talent in the #1 city for any young man. How hard is it to sell ATL vs some backwoods farming school. Hell, we have a waffle house on campus...and we've put men on the moon! I know, I know, we're all engineers and way too good at numbers, statistics but I have a solution...six pack of beer(preferably PBR), a four loco, a gallon of ice cream and your favorite bag of Doritos. Turn your brain into a sugar high mush equivalent to the average Alabama fan. Then tell me Georgia Tech isn't capable of being the helluva greatest college football school in the universe. 4X National Champions and that's not all!

"Turn your brain into a sugar high mush equivalent to the average Alabama fan." Thank you but at my age I need all of my functioning brain cells just to keep up with the young whippersnappers on this site saying things I have no clue about. Like "a four loco" Pray, what is a "loco"? A new kind of marijuana, perhaps?

Several years? He won’t get several years. Expectations are blowing up and a most of it is his doing. He won’t get several years.

I think Athlon was right on when they said it might take 2-3 seasons for Geoff Collins and his coaching staff to get the team going in the direction he wants them to go since he's going over to a whole new offense.

It don't matter what "athlon" thinks......if he craps the bed or can't deliver (see our current basketball coach) after all the hype......he will be gone in less than 5

How long is his contract? Something like 7 years? TStan has chosen his hill to die on then. Instant success is a bit much to expect at the Institute but sometimes you are your own worst enemy. I trust that Coach Collins will fulfill these heightened expectations.

Depends on the degree of "several." I'm sure he will get at least 3, probably 4 unless it's an absolute disaster.
You mean like what is currently going on at FSU and Miami? That is very close to an "absolute disaster" maybe not on the scale that Louisville was this year but you saw what happened to Coach Petrino. Karma can be a demanding taskmaster.

3 will be the minimum unless he pulls a B-L, or the first two years of Curry.

Please not before bedtime. Just imagining us going back to the days of him whose name is not spoken is enough to give me nightmares. I will give Coach Curry a limited pass because of how bad the entire program was prior to his arrival. Absolute rock bottom in just about every way imaginable.
