QB battle

No one really doubts JJ's upside. The main question for him is how close to prime time?

Part of that question can be answered by how coachable is he. (Didn't matter how many times M Vick was told to secure the ball, he always refused to). The second part of this equation is probably mental, how much of the play book does he have down? And reps. You can know the playbook but gotta have reps to get fluent in the system.

Still more questions than answers imo.

Voluminous reps are a must in order to master the spacing/timing/chemistry required to not only make the offense hum, but not self distruct with mistakes.

I think it's getting interesting that two camps are developing quite quickly:

1. Lucas is CLEARLY the QB of the future
2. Jay is CLEARLY the QB of the future

I'll be honest... I have no clue haha. Don't know where ya'll get this confidence from.

I'm OK with people picking one guy and supporting him. I don't understand it, but I'm OK with it. I just hope that everyone will support whoever the #1 guy is on 9/4. I also hope that all of the "support" for one's favorite doesn't turn into cutting down the other guys.

Mine comes from Dedrick and CPJ gushing with big smiles on their faces, and Brandt unprompted saying he's going to be a big part of our offense this year.

Also, I have a learned bias towards QBs who were recruited by Alabama to play something besides QB.

He said he was a lot more concerned about another position. Any guess as to what that is?
I'm guessing DL by past comments, saying someone will need to step up there (DT) maybe LB as well. Not sure about OL, people have said CPJ was saying they have the potential to be the best OL he has had.

Well, we know it's not punter because we aren't doing that this year. Hopefully Mr. Harvin isn't offended by being redshirted when he's the only punter on scholly (I don't know if this is true and I'm too lazy to look it up).

Sounds like CPJ sees a lot of upside in JJ, especially how athletic he is and how he shut down any thought of moving him. I'm guessing TM will be our #2 until Jay is ready enough and then TM goes to AB. MJ will either be our starter or goaline QB for the other 2.

Seems obvious to me that MJ is too conservative and JJ is a loose cannon. My money is on some combination of TM / LJ (my pick) and MJ converts short yardage and when the playmakers fall short. JJ stays at QB but rides the pine until he shows control of the ball. Any takers?

I'll take TM as 1a and JJ as 1b. I think JJ is top two after CPJ saying he will be a good QB whether it be down the line or THIS year. He perks up when he talks about JJ and said he just needs to hone in on what he can do. I think CPJ knows he has something special in JJ and knows it's just a matter of time till he hones in and takes control. For that 1b CPJ talked about im going with MJ. I feel like with the injuries, he has been set back but I don't think he is out of the race, he knows the offense to well.

Agree that he seems optimistic about JJ's potential, but when CPJ says "if not this year" I interpret that as NOT this year. He has talked about consistency and ball control as critical factors and has called out JJ for being too risky (my words) in that regard. Failure to mention LJ is curious but not telling. He wants a steady hand. MJ offers that and LJ is the only contender that he's described as "poised" as he did after the spring game. As CPJ said, JJ will remain at QB, and TM is an athlete that needs to be on the field. I've changed my prediction to 1a) MJ, 1b) LJ, 3) JJ, TM to AB. I know this to be true because a Blanton's bourbon told me so.

I get what you are saying but "if not this year" to me means he has a chance this year but if he isn't, he will be eventually.

Players are watching these tv interviews and they read what coaches say about them online. Don't think for a minute that CPJ isn't using this as motivation to get players to work even harder for their spots on the depth chart. GT hasn't had this much depth at QB and B-Back since Johnson hit the Flats.

I'm expecting huge yardage from the B-back spot this season and this offense is very hard to stop when you're getting consistent yards up the gut!
