I wonder more about his scrambling ability when pass blocking breaks down. JT could turn a broken pass play into a big play. Just ask Duke about that last year. I hope he doesn't have to do that often but history says otherwise. We aren't built on pass protection.

MJ won't turn a 2 yd loss into a 12 yd loss like JeT did at UNC, either.

Justin Thomas had an extremely high 157 QB rating last year, but still averaged 1 turnover per game.

He had 5 games with no turnovers. We went 3-2 in those games.
He had 2 games with 2 or more turnovers. We went 1-1 in those games.

Our possessions are valuable and nobody wants turnovers. But there really is a limit to how much it matters in the whole scheme of things. See the above stats - there was hardly a difference in our record between high turnover games and zero turnover games at the QB position. Yea we don't want a QB who turns it over 5 times a game. But if a QB can make more plays than another and along the way has 1 or 2 turnovers, its not the end of the world. Our defense should be doing the same thing in return.

It's not just the turnovers, it's also the drive killing losses from running backwards.

That certainly happened sometimes, but the poster above also has a point about MJ not having the ability to make some of the kind of plays JeT made against MSU and VT and Duke. There's nothing wrong with questioning certain aspects of our new QB's game without having to criticize aspects of our former QB's game.

Let's appreciate what we just had in JeT, and be optimistic about what we'll have in MJ. Or TM, or JJ, or LJ.

It's TO that are pick six or within our 30 that are killers. I hate TO in the red zone but with a good defense you can recover because opponent has poor field position. Improvement in a significant way on D is my concern. If we do this could be a special year.

BTW I would like to see JJones at A Back this year. A passing threat at AB with breakway ability should be worth extra yards for an already powerful O scheme. I don't believe CPJ has ever thought so.

Depends on what's around him. I agree, if we aren't confident the less game-breaking QB has playmakers around him and he's savvy enough to get them the ball. I think MJ may give us that, though. And if he can give us the JfN-type carries in short yardage, look out.

The problem with moving him to AB (or TaQuon Marshall) is that Clinton Lynch, Qua Searcy, JJ Green, and Nate Cottrell (just to name 4) are already there. Football is a violent sport, and we need backups at the QB position. I'd rather have our QBs stay as backups and focus 100% on that position than to change to another position where they get lost in the depth chart forever. We are very deep elsewhere right now.

With regards to JeT running backwards, this is where I get into trouble comparing him to Barry Sanders. That guy had a massive standard deviation. He'd have 2-3 runs a game over 30 yards. But he had tons and tons of runs for 0 or negative yards. Its very hard to sustain drives if you're not moving forward.
