The ND student section was full an hour before kickoff the last time we played there.

Pictures I took as we approached kickoff at ND. The student section is center frame on these pics.

I guess it didn't fill up as early as I had thought, but it was definitely full by kickoff, as your last photo indicates. Wish we could say the same about the Tech student section.

Yes and that’s all that matters. I’m not sure why our students are getting more involved. Many tailgaters and students mulling around before kickoff. Great atmosphere. Here’s a pic of the tailgating in the parking lot.

I was there for the tailgating too, although a good bit further away from the stadium than that particular lot is.

We will never compete with the factories when it comes to fan support and never have in the modern age. If we are waiting on that then it's a fool's proposition. There just aren't enough of us compared to any factory or primary state school. That said, we have to seek out other avenues.

Here's the thing, we might never be able to go toe to toe in number of fans, but we can still compete with the factories. Our stadium seats 55,000. We have the fan base to fill it, we just don't. We tout the financial success of our graduates, yet we lament that our athletics are woefully underfunded. There is a disconnect between a good portion of our student (and eventually alumni) body and the athletic fan base of GT. Our branding initiatives need to do better at bridging that chasm. (It's more than just a gap) We need our alumni who don't really care for sports to understand how important athletics are to the Institution. It's the other side of the Total Person Program put in place by Homer Rice. If we only pitch that to our athletes, we are failing as an Institution. What we can do is create an endowment for athletics and work to fund it. Leverage the ingenuity of GT students and researchers to pursue innovations in the athletics arena. There is no reason why we can't compete, except that we are not willing to pay the cost of competing. From what I have seen so far, TStan understands this, and hopefully we will begin to see changes in the near future.

We CAN and HAVE competed against the factories under Johnson, so why can't we fill the stands? ACC opponents which for the most part are not "attractive" and just don't draw much interest. Obviously virtually any SEC opponent would be more "attractive." But we are in the ACC, not the SEC, and we have to deal with that. The only thing that will pretty much automatically increase interest is to have a string of at least 8-win seasons. I think Johnson is capable of doing that, but the fact remains that, for whatever reasons, he hasn't.

When I said we couldn't compete, I was only talking about number of fans and the amount of fan support which is more or less directly proportional to the number of fans a team has. There are probably triple the number of football fans of uga, uf, ut, usc, auburn, alabama, etc. than we could ever hope to have within driving distance of BDS. However, we can and should compete with most of the factories on the field, because we have proven in the recent past that we can and do although not on a consistent basis as is needed. Irregardless, I'm not looking to link our current fan support with the issue of being selected for 5 tv home nooners each year as I believe that there is plenty of room for flexibility between television and game times for individual schools.

I know I have said this before and some agree . Take out the bench seats and put in chair back seats. Give more room go from 55,000 back to 48,000 and cut back on visitors tickets , Just my idea may not be great.
And add some hand rails down those damn steep steps.
Coach Flokes (sic) made us run them but now i can hardly make it
