I first thought he may not like Atlanta traffic but where he's going is just as bad with worse weather. I am not surprised by college coaches going to the NFL. College FB is a mess right now. We definitely showed improvement this year. Sorry to see him go.

We might upgrade by finding someone ready to show his oats, but we won't spend to get a known upgrade. Hopefully, Key has that potential guy already identified.

Clemson spent some major bank to get a known upgrade.

This. I’m still bitter Duke’s All ACC DT transferred to VT like 3 days before Santucci signed on for us.

I’m sure we’ll find a good replacement. Just hope it doesn’t negatively impact our roster/personnel too much.

Edit: I dunno, just spit balling. Is this something Jess Simpson is ready for/wants to do? Seems energetic and the kids like him. Bring in another DT coach, hopefully with a couple DTs.

At best it’s a lateral move. Defense had a lot of turnover especially on the defensive line. Wonder if he looked at the personnel and figured a regression was likely given the talent lost.

I heard of a man who brings innovation, discipline, and most importantly execution! He’s a local guy named Ceff Gollins. Should be able to recruit well as he sells an intense brand.

Lateral move? Santucci is 36 years old. (Faulkner is only 43) I have no actual knowledge. But my impression of both of those guys is that they are doing what they think is necessary to become a CFP winning or Super Bowl winning HC. I think they are looking at where they will be in 10 years, and what the decisions they make today will affect the 10 year goal. I don't think they are making career decisions based on what is easiest this Fall.

Hate it for us, but his quality of life is gonna improve 7 fold not having to recruit everyday and just focus on coaching.

In the NFL, you have a lot less roster volatility than in college ball as it stands now. If you can get on a good staff you stand a reasonable chance of advancing up the ranks. Solid long term move for Santucci.

That being said, let's open up the war chest and go out and hire an even better DC.
