So in summary, had Sims not been gimpy he would have added an extra threat for Virginia to contend with but, since he couldn’t run, Virginia’s defense could tee off on the passer, at which they got better and better as the game wore on. Sims and the offense was getting stuffed more and more leading up to the injury. Again, had Sims been healthy, it might have been a different game.
Gibson is slower and not as athletic as Sims, obviously. But he was further hindered by not ever having seen any live action and not having worked out the timing with WRs and RBs under game conditions. I still contend that giving back up QBs game experience helps if and when the starter goes down with an injury.
We are a weak team. Whoever comes in as coach has a total rebuilding job on their hands with this offense. The defense shows promise.
