AGAIN,it was not as close as it looks. You can forget about winning giving up 500 yds on DEF with our jerky OFF. uM couldn't even give it away. ---also-Thacker is way over his head.
Wtf are you talking about? It was exactly as close as it looks. This wasn't some game where we scored a bunch in garbage time. We were back and forth with them the whole game

Hard to believe they gave us 3 fumbles (one for a TD), two failed 4th down tries, a missed 40 yd field goal, and a returned two point conversion, and we still couldn’t beat them.
Miami gave it the old college try but fell just short. The botched two point conversion that was returned the other way by Tech was about the most Manny thing I have seen Miami do this season. They gained 563 yards to our 329. Hell, Rambo by himself gained more yards receiving than our whole team and yet, it was a 3 point game. Remarkable.

I watched it.

They handed us the ball game and, while we did take them up on it, we didn't play well enough on D - again - to really benefit from it. Any team that losses 3 fumbles in a game ought to lose. It's to our credit that we scored off of two of the turnovers. It's to theirs that they came back and won, albeit barely. Again, untimely penalties didn't do us any good at all and this in a game where the refs were not calling the close ones.

The O - again - was only sporadically effective. Why? Because, imho, we aren't putting our best players on the field for every play. If we concentrated on giving Mason the ball 15- 20 times a game we would benefit. If we had Gibbs on the field at the same time and concentrated on getting him the ball 15 - 20 times as well we would also benefit. I'm at a loss to say why this isn't happening; it's not as if we don't have adequate backups. Btw, I didn't think Sims played badly today; not great, of course, but not badly. He made several good throws and only got intercepted once. Oth, he didn't lead us to victory either. Still a work in progress, given that the coaches don't let him run.

As for there D - well, the numbers speak for themselves, despite the stops on 4th down. (Btw, I can see why the Cane fans want to fire Manny after those calls. "We didn't get a first on 4th by running the ball up the middle last time. Let's do it again!!") But … at least they didn't let the game run away from them, which could easily have happened. And we did recover the fumbles when we got the chance. The story here isn't encouraging, but it isn't all bad either.

Like the Clemson game, this is one we could have won and, if the team had anything like a killer instinct, we would have. Unfortunately …

When one team is ahead in every statistical category except TOP and turnovers, it really is not that close except for Miami doing Miami things like fumbling into the air and it being returned for a TD. Tech got just about every break possible but when you gain 6 yards on the last 4 possessions in crunch time...well, its pretty bad.

But it very literally was that close.... if you watched the game

So our bad plays count but theirs don't? We played bad. They also played bad. That's why it was close.

We had the lead until 10 minutes left in the 4th and never were more than 3 behind after that. You can argue why the game was that close, but it was never not a close game except for a brief time when they went up by 2 scores early.

You should watch it. It was actually a hard fought and entertaining game for fans...not so much for the coaches.
I agree with this @Sheboygan

For the most part, we tackled a lot better. We had some 3rd down and 4th down stands. We had some gorgeous plays on both offense and defense. You should watch just for the defensive two point conversion. Or for Mason’s 71 yard TD. Or Gibb’s big day. Sanders made an great one-handed catch. Our punter almost got tackled, but managed to get away a punt in a gutsy play.

We shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and other mistakes, but Sims made some of the plays we’ve been dying for him to make. He missed some of those plays too, and they could have won the game for us.

We had enough gutsy plays to win easily—we also shot ourselves in the foot enough to lose most games. The shooting in the foot part of our game won out over the gutsy plays, unfortunately.

Patenaude called some cool plays and we came out in the pistol and some of the other formations that people have been asking for. Sean Bedford made a few compliments during the game. We had several plays that were an inch away from breaking a big play or a score, but ended up with just a short gain.

Blocking was good sometimes, and sometimes not. When it was good, we looked really good.

There were plays where our defenders looked great, and here were a couple where they messed up pretty badly.

Reggie Ball was a way better QB than Sims is. It’s not even close. Reggie would have gotten into several fights by now with some of these teammates. He actually had fire. Sims looks like he’d rather be checking his Instagram page.
