Last year the biggest problem we had was the oline, and there's no good reason for how bad they played last year. IMO it was mental, and I also think that Johnson's negativity played a role in getting into the heads of the Oline. They flat out crumbled the first time they went against adversity (against ND) and it couldn't have helped that their coach spent much of the off season talking them down. The year before imo was more coincidence than anything. We started out sluggish, went 5-2, and there's a good argument that we should have lost to georgia southern. Regardless it wasn't until an injury forced Johnson to go with Days that we turned into such a great team. And I doubt Johnson was so positive because he knew that halfway through he'd switch up BBacks and get a 100 ypg rusher in there.
So, it seems to me, that your argument is that our OL was actually good last year - they practiced good, they were physically good, mentally good, experienced, knew what to do. BUT, because our coach said they weren't good, that's what actually made them not good. So, he has some sort of superpower or mentalism ability? And, he decided it would be a good idea to use that ability to cause our actually good OL to just play badly during the year?

And, in a separate argument, 2014 was a fluke (even though we won comfortably against several ACC opponents) BUT 2015 was not a fluke (even though we were in close games against all but 1 ACC opponent while suffering an extremely high number of injuries) but was instead our head coach's fault for saying negative things about our OL and causing them to play bad in a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Tks

I know you have mixed feelings about CPJ and your boy. Still, I reckon MJ's game vs d'oh U as a RS Fr was as least as good as JTs.

All the best to him.

I'm good with whatever they decide. He's young and will make mistakes.

It was MJ.

Cool. Not to keep beating this theme of mine, but CPJ said JT was sharp early on. While he didn't say JT wasn't as good later, that is implied. To hear it was MJ leading a 20 play drive with the first team is fabulous.

We should have a back-up QB to be able to come in whenever JT starts losing the sharpness. My continued opinion is that CPJ has ridden our QBs too long, probably because we didn't have effective backups ...... losing Byerly was one of the biggest losses of last year.

Did you bother reading anything before typing that? I didn't argue that our OL was actually good last year. I said it was the biggest problem we had. I didn't say they were mentally good. I said the exact opposite. As far as the second paragraph, I have no idea where you are getting that from. I never mentioned flukes anywhere. Take your strawmen elsewhere.

The problems on O, and on the Oline were multiple IMO. Saying the Oline wasn't mentally good AND was our biggest problem last year is quite a statement. One only a true insider would be able to stipulate. So I presume you watched practices and attended team meetings to glean that kind of insight.

MJ will be somewhere between Tevin and JFN in my mind ... What I mean is, not overwhelming in the eye test but steady and able to execute the offense (Tevin), while also being really thick and strong, able to present a completely different style and pace than JT5 (Nesbitt).

He could be solid, but we won't know until he is given the keys. I could also see TQM taking it and running with it next spring.

I have a lot of optimism in regards to MJ. He just needs to protect the ball a little better and improve on his pitch reads / timing a little. I thought he played the QB position very aggressively last year and got things going down hill quite well. He is not far off. I imagine another off season of work will have helped him a great deal.

Yes, I read your whole post. Maybe I wasn't understanding it correctly, which is why I phrased my post as a question.
Again, in your post you seem to believe that Johnson's assessment of our OL wasn't really true. In other words, they weren't actually as bad as Johnson was saying preseason. So, the reason they actually played bad in the season was not due to them actually being bad because that would've made Johnson's preseason assessment of them correct. So, it had to be something else, which you posit to have been Johnson's negative assessment of them preseason making them play bad. As I said, for your position to hold true, it would mean that the OL was actually good (mentally, physically, experientially, etc), but Johnson's false negative assessment of them caused them to be bad (mentally, physically, experientially, etc). One implication here is that Johnson is not a realist but rather a pessimist. But, then that wouldn't fit with his optimistic outlook in '14 and this year. Sooooo,....

I really am just having trouble understanding your position.

In your post, you also said that 2014 was a "coincidence", which I did take a little too much liberty with your word when I used the word "fluke" instead. So, is your position that the offensive success of 2014 was a coincidence while the lack of offensive success in 2015 was not a coincidence? Again, I think the problem is in my failing to understand your position clearly.

And, I apologize if my previous post was jerkish. I was having to type it quickly and didn't take enough time to make sure the tone was amiable. I do disagree with your positions (at least inasmuch as I understand them) and will argue as much, but that doesn't mean I have to be demeaning, which I probably was. Jerkishness is just so much easier than respectfulness when trying to argue a point.

Y'all are funny. I always go a bit silent when the pads start popping. Just holding my breath, hoping no one gets hurt. Will is fine. I thought the team looked great Sat!

Has Will mentioned anything about the Dlinemen he's been battling in camp? Anyone standing out or really tough to handle?
