Jose said in interview that it is his knee not his hamstring - I guess that’s better in short-term if cleared by med staff. A hammy can knock you out of game on one bad extension. If they’re letting him play on gimpy knee, must mean he can’t do structural damage, so must be a strain and a pain tolerance thing, and probably limited explosiveness, but at least not the severe hammy that makes you an instant defensive liability. A must win, so a must field of our best players, but def look for time to rest Jose, and keep stationary bike handy.

I feel like with this team I shouldn’t be as nervous as I am, but I’m hoping we don’t play down to our opponent and just take care of business. Another Q3 loss would sink us barring a tournament run so let’s win this and then focus on a possible tournament run for good measure.

Since we don’t see much about the Wake players, here’s a chart of their season (from Sports Reference):

They’ve been having a time of it this season, to say the least. Green is winning, red is losing, and long red bars mean losing big.

Here’s the chart from last Saturday’s VT game (top 5 are starters).

Generated 3/5/2021.

They use their bench a bit more than we do. It doesn’t show here, but Williamson has been their main scoring threat this season. No one was really close to 40 minutes. Their turnover percentage was 21% (not good). Their offensive rating was 66 (really bad). They didn’t do anything to slow down Virginia Tech.

The last time we played Wake, it was kinda close in the first half, and we put on the jets in the second half. I’d rather we blow them out from the opening tip and just leave no doubt.

In the Pitt game, Pitt’s Champagnie got 20 points in 31 minutes. Pitt’s guard Sibande got 23 in 37 minutes. Pitt only had 6 3’s and scored 70. It looks like WF is vulnerable in the paint. VT got 13 3 pointers, and I’ve heard WF is vulnerable to outside shooting.

Hope we’re hot today.

It feels like this team has come too far and done too much to blow this game. To that end while the end of the duke game sucked, it should have taught a lesson and it's always nice to get those lessons in wins rather than losses.

I hope I’m surprised and Wake bends over and let’s us plow them, but this is an ACC road game and wins do not normally come easy regardless of who you’re playing.
As long as they don’t go crazy from 3 (have to say would be very Georgia Tech) we should be okay.

While I agree with the general sentiment, it should be noted they have lost their last 3 home games by scores of 18, 21, and 24.

Carter Whitt is young but will be a nice starting piece for Wake in years to come. Will need to play hard and take nothing for granted to win this game.
