Dude stop, he put together some of the most successful seasons in the last few decades. If what it takes to get people excited has more to do with flash and "exciting football" (with does that mean anyways) then why keep score, let's just determine that the most "exciting" team wins. For me winning the orange bowl, acc and multiple 10 win seasons is pretty exciting. Again if that's not enough to get the fans in the stands, then people don't care for winning.

No body is interested in winning games anymore, people would rather have attention. It's disgusting.

(Not that he should; last week's result was very much a complete team "effort" -- coaching staff as well as players.)

Dude stop, Paul Johnson had the lowest winning percentage of any coach since Lewis. And that's despite walking into the best talent situation of any of them--and without those first two years with Gailey's recruits his win percentage would be far worse. The man never did recruit. 2014--which is really what your are pointing at-- was a great year. But one year doesn't mean he was a great (or even good) coach who established the kind of consistent program that attracts fans.

It would be fun to debate CPJ, but let’s assume he was able to win 75% ... which would place him as one of the very top coaches ever.

Would it change Tech? No. It might improve it somewhat, but Tech leaving the SEC and Petit investing in Research has fundamentally changed Tech.

We have had care taker presidents ( not a bad thing) who have not Needed to create a vibrant student body. The research money is rolling in! With the recent big bump in military hardware spending out research $ is up.

FYi, we have a new coach and nothing CPJ does has any bearing on that. He does not work for GT any more and never will. The new guy better figure out a way to succeed because the alternative is really not good.

Pettit wanted to increase the number of PhD degrees. We were basically a great undergrad program but the $ were in funded research. The school is now 3x larger in enrollment than when I entered. The EE program was largest in the country but only 4 PhD were allowed to pass the qualifier exam each year. That changed.
It is not impossible but it is more difficult to compete with the big state schools if you have a rigorous top academic institute. They have places to hide marginal students.

I know a former UNC QB whose 2 son's played at UNC under him as DC. He did not have much good to say about Tenuta and one of his sons transferred. He was known for his derogatory nicknames for his players.
That would have been one tough staff with PJ and Tenuta both coaching together.

The way LOST AND WON this season, has rocked my confidence in this new coaching staff...and I believe others similarly.

I would not be critical if we just did not have the talent, we do have some bright spots that are frustratingly not being used to their full advantage.

If we had a good plan and good effort (players are playing w/ full effort) losing during a transition as we are making an investment.

The undecipherable approach we have been presented this far is hard to watch and consequently support...

The thing is, Paul quit on us. The man is a quitter and I have lost all respect for a coward like him. He should have served out his contract he had with us.
He’s dead to me now. I wouldn’t pee on him if his hair was on fire. He’s leaving has turned us into a dumpster fire.

I love option football but he is the only option coach good enough to win the ACC or complete with UGA.
Since he left us, we’re stuck rebuilding to a conventional offense. It’s gonna be a bad 2 or 3 years.

I am convinced Tenuta’s style of defense slowly went extinct with the spread. For how good we were on D with him, we always looked AWFUL against QBs who could get rid of the ball quick and so many of these spread options are built for that.

But, I will grant you there are a few similarities but the differences in infrastructure, depth, talent, recruiting resources is beyond compare. 1979 to 1983 might better be compared to the end of Coach Alexander's time. We were getting beat regularly then. There was widespread talk of discontinuing football during the 1979 to 1983 era. In spite of widespread complaining now, there is no thought of doing anything that drastic.
