I think Philo is actually more elusive than Pyron is. I don't think Faulkner has fully unleashed Philo yet. Philo isn't as quick or fast as Haynes, and we won't see many 20+ yard TD runs from him like we do with King, but he's a plus runner. I just don't think Faulkner wants to put that kind of wear and tear on Philo with King not fully healthy.

I understand we need to win now, but do we burn Philo's redshirt by playing him in both of the last two games. I believe he has played in three to date with four being the limit on keeping the shirt. I say play him against NCST, but sit again UGAg.

Yeah, the sideline reporter was interviewed on XM and was asked about King's injury. She confirmed from her meetings with the coaches, and this may not be new news but I'll share it anyway, that the only thing that still pains him is passing downfield. He can't re-injure or injured it further by running, which is why he played at all. Also said rest is the only thing he needs to heal in the near term.

From what I've seen from Philo, I say give him the NCSt game then bring King back for uGA. We'll have to play it conservative from here on out either way.
If King has a separated shoulder and can’t do the overhead movement well, he’s not healing up by the UGAg game. With that in mind, I’d say run the same scheme as Saturday, giving Philo more and more reps to get him ready. The more reps and game experience he has the better when we head to the ‘pool.

Screw redshirting. Not even remotely worth it in today's game. Play for today, not tomorrow.

Amen, give him the start and play him a ton in the next three games, i hate them but uga is likely too good and well coached on defense for the HK running only attack to work. What gives me hope is how our defense is coming on strong and how mediocre their offense is. I say go for broke and let Philo sling it

If King’s shoulder is not healthy by NCST and our RB room is still beat up, wonder if coaches would consider making King emergency backup RB? Looked like at end of game we were dependent on WR motion mesh for a run threat.

Agreed. I think actual game experience goes much further than redshirting does. If you sit him now you have to make that up in the future...and if he's not ready next year, but King is healthy there's no reason you still can't have him sit most of the year and still play in four games.

Haynes King isn't a running back, and Key wouldn't risk him as such. He's more of a broken-field runner, anyway, a scrambler.

Edit to drive home your point some more. And Buster was probably reminded of that issue when he saw Philo limping off the field after one of his runs on Saturday.

If our plays aren't already fairly obvious to the defenses we face, it will be when we have one QB who can't pass and another who can't run.

Our DB's played well Saturday but we need to recruit some bigger safeties with length to matchup with the elites as shown in the ND game.
The really crazy thing about the DBs in that game is how many were playing out of position because of injuries. I hadn't known all of the various shifts causing Shelley, Powell-Lee, and Omar Daniels to play out of position pretty much at the last minute. And Ahmari Harvey getting banged up a few times during the game but continuing to come back and Zachary Tobe coming in and making some good plays, too.

With the transfer portal, the redshirt isn’t really worth it, IMO, if he can potentially help us win games now. Let’s use him while we have him. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

I get that, but I feel Philo has the potential to be a generational talent. He is making pro level throws as a true freshman. I hate to burn the red shirt for a single game. Just me.

If he’s that good, he’s not going to stay long enough for that year to matter, whether it’s leaving for the pros, or leaving elsewhere in college. It’s just the reality of college football now.

Maybe pros, but I don't really like the "leaving elsewhere in college" part. I trust Cabrera and Batt to gather the funding to keep key team members. Can we out bid Texas or Georgia, maybe not, but we will be more competitive in the future with player retention.

I hope there's a way to preserve his redshirt without sacrificing a W, for both Philo's sake and for the sake of the team long-term. It looks like the only way for that to happen is for Zack to heal up and get back in there. I would think he'll be able to handle NC State a lot better than Notre Dame, in case anyone's given up on him.

But in any case, you have to do what you have to do.

Based on NC State's defensive profile, we should be able to Run The Ball. That bodes well for the possibility that King can manage the game without Philo's arm. Remains to be seen though, and I think our coaches will play whoever helps us win.
