I don't see how anyone besides UNC gets the Belk unless VT can fall in there.

Because UNC is 1-2 in their last 3 games.

This was before the win over UGA, and the other week 12 games where some acc teams lost. We should jump up to a better bowl imo.

As I understand it: If Clemson does get in the playoff, then The Orange Bowl gets the first selection of remaining teams, the Russell Athletic(Citrus) gets the second selection, the Belk, Sun, Pinstripe, and Music/Taxslayer are negotiated between the bowls and the ACC, then the Military, Independence, Quicklane, and St Petersburg are negotiated between the bowls and the ACC. After the Russell Athletic, there is not a specific order only two tiers. The loser of the ACC Championship Game is guaranteed to not drop below the Sun Bowl.

The bottom three will probably be among BC/NCST/Wake. I don't see Louisville dropping all the way to the Music/Taxslayer. The Tier 1 games(Belk, Sun, Pinstripe, and Music/Taxslayer) try to get the best matchups(ie ratings). The actual order of ACC teams selected for those games will depend upon the opponents available for those games and any interesting matchups that could be made. If for example a West Virginia/Miami matchup could be put together in one of those games, it could be touted as a renewal of a Big East rivalry. The Tier 2 games operate the same, getting the best ratings is the most important thing to selection.

With the understanding that the bowls select participants primarily for ratings and matchups, it seems that any projections are extremely unreliable.

You are right. The Russell Athletic Bowl does have an ACC tie-in. The ACC only sends a team to the Citrus Bowl if a Big10 team is in the Orange Bowl or something like that.

These are just my thoughts based on the selection criteria. It is assuming a Clemp win over VT, but not a blow out that would cause VT to tumble. FSU will be the highest ranked team next to Clemp so they should go to the Orange. UNC is a lock on the Belk. The Sun takes a southern team....UM. If the Citrus takes VT. the other two Tier one games are the Pinstripe and Music / Taxslayer. Pitt will be the next "choice" team.....my guess is the go to NYC based on location. The only question is how far Louisville tumbles after their Kentucky loss. If we are viewed better than Louisville, we might slide in ahead of them, especially if it is the Taxslayer....if it goes Music, then Louisville is a logical choice. In that case we are the best team left for the Tier II bowls, and Military gets first choice which would put us in Annapolis.....I don't think we go any lower than that.

If a bowl thinks Lamar Jackson might win the Heisman that might influence some bowl committees, but IDK.

Perhaps when it becomes more difficult to schedule bowl games than make up an entire 12 game schedule for a 100 or so teams - are there too many bowls?

CBS sports has GT playing Utah in the Sun Bowl. Seems likely.

Looking like our options will be Sun, Pinstripe, or Military with outside shot at Belk. We really need Clemson to win and get in playoff so FSU goes to Orange. I think the players would love a trip to NYC.
