This would be the game we need to have long offensive drives to cause their offense to panic and make mistakes (in case we can't force them into mistakes with our defense).

Only an 11 point underdog? That was certainly generous. This is a game that will be won in the trenches and we haven't done too well in the trenches lately.

I don't know if we'll beat these guys or not, but I think it will be a very close game. Their D is every bit as bad as ours and the Os match up quite well, if we get back Mills. (Coach seemed pretty sure about that, btw.) I expect another track meet, sort of like the Pitt game. Pitt beat us by 3 points; UNC beat them by 3 points. If we win, I expect that margin or even closer.

Oth, since it's up there, I'm not surprised at the line. But I don't think that reflects anything but superstition. Betting pools are rife with that.

We've scored less than 30 only three times vs. them in CPJ tenure, so getting 35+ may not be an issue. It's holding them under 30 that may be the issue. UNC is technically 1-8 vs us while scoring under 30 points (that win got vacated). So using @AE87 ppd, we need 4-5 stops to have a chance at winning this game
Are you sure the UNC win was vacated? I didn't think so.

I think you are right. Outside of turnovers which flip this on its head - I expect this to be a close high scoring game where one late stop by one D or the other is what makes a difference. They have been improving on D but I still think we carve them up as much as I certainly expect them to carve us up.

It will be a wild game IMHO - fun to watch and screaming about how bad our pass D is by the end of the day.

Ted Roofs seat is probably on fire after the Duke game, if our defense doesn't show up against UNC he may not coach another game at GT.

Just speculation here, but CPJ was clearly pissed about our defense in the post game Saturday.

If we have a top 30 D, most years we would be a 9 to 10+ win team imo.

I've said that many times in the past. CPJ's offense in most years is good enough for us to compete with most teams. Give him a solid top 30 defense, and we should be consistently competing for ACC Championships.

11 points is a ton to give up for Carolina. And for all the talk about their offense, it's not like they're 2014 Oregon (or Georgia Tech). Granted our defense leaves a bit to be desired, but I don't get why anyone would think this game is a gimme for them.

I don't think the game is a gimme for UNC. They have to show up and play their game, and play well.

I think they are getting 11 firstly, because of the stylistic match up between our D and their O, and secondly due to our offenses inconsistency with converting short yardage situations (and therefore making it difficult to death march).

First, fast tempo gives us trouble due to not being able to substitute, not having well-rounded DL, and not being able to get off the field. Second shotgun spread with eye candy is a poor match up for a younger back seven. Third they can throw well and we have no pass rush and a young secondary.

Our offense has been explosive but struggles to possess the ball due to trouble getting sure short yardage when needed.

All this said there is no doubt we can win this game--and barring Carolina being flat or making a ton of mistakes--we have to improve this week on both sides of the ball. And kick off return. If we can get 1-2 more stops per half, and we can confidently run inside to convert short yardage situations, we have an excellent chance to win.

Agreed, something really needs to change with our D. A good start would be the D line I'm hoping we can land a big time DE and DT this class with Warner added in at LB and woods and Adams already on the team we could actually have some good size and speed to go along with it.
