False Hope

I've watched college basketball for over 40 years. I would hope we would see some level of improvement but if you think any of these guys are going to turn into the next Dennis Scott, Kenny Anderson, either Barry brother, Anthony Morrow or name any other great player/shooter from past Tech teams you're crazy.

Both Haywood and Jose last year, and Devoe this year, shot better as freshmen from beyond the arc than Anthony Morrow did.

I base my opinion on the fact that our current AD played football and between Alexander, Heisman, Dodd, Rice, Radakovich all played and/or coached football and they ADed at Tech for over 100 years combined, and that we have 4 NC's.

I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. I don't believe that football lifts up basketball, or more specifically, is necessary to be good for basketball to be good. That's why I mentioned that our glory years of basketball started in football's darkest days.

Football is clearly the primary sport of interest at GT. We've actually been consistently pretty good at football since the mid-90s, using reasonable measures.

I agree that it is not necessary to have a good football program to have a good basketball program. But I also think if our football program is in good shape and generating good revenue and attracting fans to GT, it can't help but help basketball. For example, with more revenue, we can pay our basketball coaching staff more when we are trying to rebuild our program. And of course vice versa is true. We need both programs to be strong, really.

Not a good article about the state of our BB program in the ajc but I can't argue with it. Pastner needs to have something good happen to the program and in a hurry. I wouldn't say Davis is a lock for Uga until he actually signs. There are a lot of bluebloods that can change things in a millisecond.

Yeah unfortunately Cunningham's article was right on the money. Something is gonna have to be done with the hoops program. Who would have thought Pastner couldn't recruit? Maybe it's us. I see Brian Gregory doing well at USF. I don't see us firing Pastner for the next couple of years so I guess we will just be out in the wilderness. Can CGC coach basketball?...WE NEED SOME JUICE!

As all I'm saying is we just play out Pastner's contract and 86 him if things don't change. Btw, I hope they do. I like CJP and think he is a good coach but nowadays college basketball is ALL about the Jimmy's and Joe's and he just can't bring them in. Maybe Gregg Marshall is a possibility since Wichita St. has been struggling lately. I think he still has some good years left in him. Just a thought.

I believe everything coach stated in his reply. But I am not the most knowledgeable bb fan either. Banks and Gueye not playing at level they were playing at start of season, maybe due to absence of outside scoring makes us look terrible offensively. Lots of pressure on coach for next year. Let's give him our support. It will be what it will be in 2019-20.

I'd say that our frontcourt is facing off against MUCH better and more physical players than they saw earlier in the season, and that's most of the cause of any decline in their numbers. And yes, I know we played Tennessee.

I sent him an email asking about what was going on with recruiting. Looking forward to his response. I could care less about our record this year, but we need players.
Edit to say: I was respectful in my email, it's hard not to like Coach Pastner, but recruiting has to improve fast if this thing is gonna turn around.

Maybe he needs to be 'cruiting instead of answering fan emails, amirite? Mostly kidding. It's extra frustrating because he seems like a stand-up guy who deserves success and works as hard as anyone, but it just isn't happening.

I doubt you will get much there, as he isn't allowed to get into specifics. He will say what he told Sugiura. He needs a stud.

He told me this morning he expects to sign some guys in the spring and feels like we are close to turning the corner. (I had mentioned I noticed last night many times where all 5 of our guys on the court were in their first year at GT.) . He continues to feel like we've been snake bit. Think of the injuries earlier. Then last night we had 3 guys out sick plus Jose and Devoe both got knocked out of the game for a bit. If its not 1 thing its another. We'll get there. I like to remind people Coach Josh Pastner has been ACC Coach of the Year half of his time here. :D
