LOL. I have zero argument with the guy from Harvard. Not sure where you get that from. My argument has always been with the worthless document.

I got it from this:

"The fact that Harvard guy is so butthurt says more about him than you."

This is what the "Harvard guy" said, and which you obviously took issue with.:

Dr. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, told the center he thought the information and recommendations were positive and should be shared with the public.

“The fact that it’s not public makes no sense to me,” Jha said Thursday. “Why are we hiding this information from the American people? This should be published and updated every day.”

You clearly disagreed with him concerning his view of the document when you called it "worthless".

Since you pointedly deny this fact, and since it is abundantly clear by now that we disagree on the importance of transparency of the document and the importance of it being made public, I am done with this topic. You may have the last word because, as I've said previously, if I don't the argument will last until the implosion of the Universe. And if it doesn't implode, it will go on, theoretically, forever and ever and ever...

It’s okay, it’s not that big a deal. I’m just curious why everyone is so shocked they won’t release this yet can’t point to a single bit of anything in it that had any importance. It’s like the CDC building a document right now that says people should wear a mask and their superiors refuse to release it. Well, okay, why won’t they release it? Probably because they laughed at it as it was nothing new. Hopefully the people who built the document got fired for wasting taxpayers dollars. The whole story is a nothing burger...except we are reminded how many government employees get paid lots of money to waste time and contribute nothing - which is never a surprise.

where I live, a gathering of 100 people says the chances of picking up the virus are well over 99%. I’ve been to two gatherings (running races) of about 100 people and a high school graduation that had 1000 people. And I have not gotten it yet. We went on vacation to Florida and stayed at a hotel where there were probably constantly 100 people around the pool and on their section of the beach, and we didn’t get it. And there are 4 of us in our family. According to that formula, we would have a better chance of being abducted by aliens. The only thing I can come up with is that their assumption is based upon that gathering crowding into a small space like a phone booth. Well duh! LOL. No matter the crowd size, don’t gather indoors around anybody close to you.
As I said, the estimates don't guarantee that you will either contact or contract the virus. They are precautionary only. But the simple fact is that if you have attended gatherings of this size, no matter where you are, you will have a much higher chance (virtually 100%) of having possible contract with someone who is shedding virus. If you are careful, this shouldn't be a problem necessarily. But, if I were you, I'd avoid such gatherings in future. We had a recent case here in Atlanta of a bunch of kids and adults attending a graduation party. Outside. That resulted in 70 cases.

Your choice, of course. As long as you are wearing a mask.

And, btw, the new look sucks.

This is a good primer if anyone’s interested in understand what’s going on. What we’re going to find is there’s levels of severity, ie what causes the cytokine storm in the smaller percentage of the population whereas in the largest populations it nearly spontaneously resolves much like a mild case of the flu.

People are acting like C19 is a binary virus & you either get it or you don’t with the same outcomes for everyone. For months now it has been apparent there’s less virulent strains & even longer we’ve known the risk pool subject to the worst outcomes. Some want to ignore the science and “destroy the village in order to save it”. You can thank Peter Arnett for the quote.

People should be ashamed of what their politically motivated agenda is doing to our country in a time of significant peril.

At all of those gatherings I mentioned, everyone wore masks (no exceptions), we were all outside, and everyone stayed several feet away from each other. No reports of a single infection. To your point, those sorts of gatherings are the ones that should be avoided...but sometimes there are things in life you want to do. getting groceries brings a risk, getting gas. Wear a mask, keep your distance, don’t touch your face, and use hand sanitizer immediately when you leave.

That’s what bothers me about that predictor - it tells me to stay home in my house and never leave or else I will contract COVID-19. That’s just not accurate.

Its "importance" is in the fact that the report issues from the WHITE HOUSE Task Force. It is the very source of the report that makes it so important, and the fact that it runs counter to many policies of the states, for instance Georgia, where sensible mask ordinances have been overridden by the governor, and where inside dining is making people sick. That's why it should be made public, instead of being buried for political reasons. The reports are issued to all the states, and should have been made public where they would carry more weight in terms of the pressure they could apply to governors to apply the remedies suggested by the task force.

Transparency.

Assuming a lot there, aren't you?

Could be the protests are making people sick.

Or simply stubbornness and stupidity about mask wearing.

In my walk this morning, 7 out of 50 people (yes, I counted) under the age of 40 were wearing masks. I stopped counting at that point.

Well maybe all of the above. I was simply referencing one example. The task force recommended encouraging outdoor dining by making it more available. And as for masks, they're a problem while dining, don't you think?

It doesn’t run counter to anything. It says all of the same things we hear constantly now and have been told for months - avoid gatherings of people, wear masks, practice good hygiene. In the worst of cases, they recommend closing bars and gyms. Those things are already being discussed and many are already closed. There isn’t anything of value in that document. I’ve asked 6 times now for anybody to offer something of value in the document that is new or unique or different. The reality is there just isn’t anything there. I believe they buried the document because it’s an embarrassment. Hopefully they also fired everyone involved.

JMHO, but I don't believe many people are getting the virus in an outdoor setting. I do think that wearing a mask indoors is helpful and think the individual business owners should decide whether or not customers must wear face coverings in their establishments.

I don't think I read a single thing on the website about behavior concerning the virus. All it did was tell you the estimated risk was of another person with the virus being in gatherings of various sizes. (You can check.)

You can draw whatever inference from that you wish, of course. Mine was that going somewhere with gatherings of more then 15 people was probably not wise for someone my age. But we weren't planning to do that anyway, so no sweat. YMMV.

I'm betting that this would depend on the amount of social distancing being done. The protests, for instance, have not led to any major outbreaks. Most people were wearing masks, the demonstrations were outside, and everyone was moving most of the time. Oth, if you stand around for more then 10 minutes with a bunch of people who aren't wearing masks and are talking to each other without keeping the right distance, you are asking for it.

Letting individual businesses make the masking decision is also asking for it. I suspect most businesses are getting that message and doing what they can to make their stores safer for customers. But a mandate would better; it would constrain reluctant owners and give all businesses the leverage they need to get customers to comply.

The timing of the rapid rise in positives almost completely correlates with the protesting in Florida. Maybe it’s coincidental, maybe not?

Why would they need to wear masks if they’re out for a walk?

They wouldn't if they were outdoors and properly spaced. Folks go walking and biking in my neighborhood and no one wears a mask. Same people every day. My town had an ordinance about masks before the governor torpedoed it, but it didn't include walkers, bikers, runners, skate boarders, etc. if keeping six feet betwixt.

That's a good point. I'm betting another reason might be that a mandate puts them all on the same page.

Sort of like the way many liquor stores see an advantage in banning Sunday sales. They get to stay closed one day a week, cutting costs, and everybody knows to get their booze on Saturday - so their weekly sales are just about the same.

I disagree on both points. I think it would be very difficult contract the virus outdoors even in groups. That would go for most viruses. The virus needs containment in order to become an issue.

Regarding wearing face coverings inside private businesses, the business owners should decide under what conditions their customers can enter, and if a customer has a problem with those conditions, they can go elsewhere.

The City of Charleston has a mandate and fines. In almost 3 weeks they haven’t given out a single citation. Young people at parties at their house don’t care. It’s unenforceable.

If they’re walking with family members or people already in their inner circle why would they wear masks? Nobody here wears masks when they’re out for a walk, that’s absurd. If you’re walking with strangers you should wear a mask but that doesn’t sound at all like what’s happening in your hood. It’s the same people every day.
