If they’re walking with family members or people already in their inner circle why would they wear masks? Nobody here wears masks when they’re out for a walk, that’s absurd. If you’re walking with strangers you should wear a mask but that doesn’t sound at all like what’s happening in your hood. It’s the same people every day.

If you're outside with family members, no mask or distancing is required, under the discarded mandate. I think you may have misunderstood my post, and looking back at it I see that I didn't make it clear. No one wears a mask, nor are they required to do so, nor should they be, if keeping six feet apart out-of-doors. They're not walking together with strangers (they're either alone or in a family group), and if they pass other neighborhood folk they keep a neighborly distance of six feet (usually more). They're the same walkers and bikers every day so it's clear they're not getting sick. I am one of them.

The City of Charleston has a mandate and fines. In almost 3 weeks they haven’t given out a single citation. Young people at parties at their house don’t care. It’s unenforceable.
No doubt some will disregard the law, but there are a good many people who will obey the law, especially if they understand it's in the public interest. It isn't perfect, but it helps. But maybe a little enforcement would be in order when feasible. A small fine should suffice.

You hang 1 person in the public square naked by their scrotum and the masks will come out.

102 years later we’re still arguing over masks. You wouldn’t think it from all the revisionist history throughout this thread.

There are mask mandates all over the world, and to my knowledge we are the only country to make a major national fuss over it.

The below really wasn’t that hard to find. We’re hardly alone.

It’s human nature. You don’t like your parents telling you what to do, never heard anyone telling me they loved their wife nagging them, there’s a reason the word boss has negative connotations because of it’s you’re being bossed, we’ve got way too much commentary on police telling people to do things people don’t like to do, we hate the zoning board most of the time, there’s speed limits, taxes and a whole host of things we’re told to do that we hate. Why is it surprising human beings hate government telling them what to do? The only people in favor of that are the people benefitting from others being told what to do and there’s few of those. Masks are no different.

Maybe we can just put the information out there, explain why it’s important & let people make rational decisions instead of trying to turn it into a lightning rod issue to polarize every man, woman and child? You know, give people freedom of choice. A much larger percentage of the population will make the right decision if you do it that way.

We’re also the most productive, innovative, entrepreneurial, and the first to step up to root out evil in the world. Think there might be a correlation?

Maybe it's the European genes......

Many people can't afford masks let alone vaccine. Doesn't like 1/2 of the world's population live on less than $5.50 per day?

When is this virus going to end?

I look at masks like laws prohibiting texting and driving.

I don't care if someone kills only themselves. Don't endanger others.

People should be freer to screw up their own lives, but not others. No reason for motorcycle helmets as long as they waive health care coverage.

I walked around the corner into crowded areas with a bunch of people not wearing masks before. I just turned around and went the other way. I think they’re being silly, but whatever.

Hanson's Razor. Many people believe the COVID risks are overblown political hype. Especially in the US.

Did you see that story about the 30 year-old guy who went to a COVID party and wound up dead?

The man, 30, told his nurse, 'I think I made a mistake'

The government owns the roads and highways. If we don’t like the laws the lawmakers are making we have the right to vote for different lawmakers to change the laws. People forget we voted for these imbeciles.

None of those claims are actually true, so no, I don’t believe there is any correlation. I do however, believe there is a correlation in Americans having a superiority complex and claiming we are the best in the world at everything even though we clearly aren’t, which leads to America having problems the rest of the developed world never does.

Don't know that I completely disagree...except this is a heavily used walking path, and my count took maybe 4 minutes. So, social distancing is a challenge with that many people using the path. On the other hand, I understand that one has to be exposed for more than a few seconds to actually catch the virus....so you may be correct.
