In the long run the push back is not very meaningful but they have to do it anyway. The 2 will get it the way they want it, just a matter of time.
You realize we played Northwestern more than any team in the ACC-Big 10 challenge followed by playing Penn State second most! The first 6 or so years we played some of the better teams in the Big 10. Then we sucked and played the dregs of the Big 10!Is Rutgers or Northwestern going to be the mutts permanent cross conference rival?
I'm talking about football, not basketball. And so is the OP and the linked article. You realize we played Northwestern more than any team in the ACC-Big 10 challenge followed by playing Penn State second most! Oops, my badI'm talking about football, not basketball. And so is the OP and the linked article.
All good. We all are getting used to "automatic bids" in football.Oops, my bad
Yeah but we are sissies (according to some on this board) if we don't play them. F the SEC, don't play them in anything moving forward!
I hope that at the second BDS at night game in 2024 we show progression towards being total winning team on the field.I've said for years that the SEC and B1G were working on something we haven't even thought of yet. As the years go by, we're seeing more and more of "the plan" come out. There's a reason why the B1G wants a team in every state with an NFL team (AKA, every major market). The SEC is vacuuming giant blue blood programs. There's a larger plan at play for those two conferences.
Remember when the B1G and SEC vocalized that they wanted more influence on NCAA matters (LOL!), and more say on how the playoffs were set up? I got a lot of blowback because some on here were being way too altruistic about the balance of the college operating ecosystem that's gone on for decades. Well, here we are, The SEC and B1G are telegraphing their intentions now.
In the end, GT will be fine. I've always believed that GT was positioned to join the B1G. We represent too much towards the B1G's athletic ambitions, along with their academic principles.
Interesting article. We need to stay in touch with the BIG. Although we aren't mentioned, We are more likely a tarhet of BIG than many of the others listed. I'm sure Batt is active in this regard. Adding ND would solidify the ACC, and the ACC should offer them whatever it takes, since that is really their only hope of surviving this madness. This article from "Fansided" concerning the SEC and B1G meeting reference scheduling sounds pretty ominous for the ACC, BIG 12 and Notre Dame. More talk about automatic bids for CFP.
Hopefully things will not get this bad for the ACC and GT.
Big Ten, SEC are cooking up an arrangement that will end Notre Dame independence once and for all
A reported scheduling agreement is being discussed between the two conferences that would essentially turn college football into the haves and have nots.fansided.com
Pretty sure their current contract agreement with the ACC is they must join the ACC if they join any conference. They agreed to that in order to guarantee the ACC games on their schedule as an independent in FB. Would that hold up in court and is there a penalty if not fulfilled????Interesting article. Don’t need anymore reasons.Pretty sure their current contract agreement with the ACC is they must join the ACC if they join any conference. BTW they still owe us $1M for the buyout of O'leary contract which they refused to pay. Told GT to sue him? Just another reason to dislike them.
The GOR only includes non-football sports for ND. ND could leave the conference and have football included in the BIG10. They would have to negotiate for the other sports, or just allow the ACC to televise them until 2036. ND would be breaking the contract with the ACC if they join a different conference. The ACC would likely sue them, or maybe ND would just settle. If they are OK with losing the rights to their non-football sports, it would not otherwise be impossible financially for them to leave.Pretty sure their current contract agreement with the ACC is they must join the ACC if they join any conference. Why would ND owe the buyout money for O'Leary? ND didn't have a contract the GT, O'Leary did. ND didn't sign a buyout clause with GT, O'Leary did.BTW they still owe us $1M for the buyout of O'leary contract which they refused to pay. Told GT to sue him? Just another reason to dislike them.

They agreed to pay for the buyout of his contract. When his false resume was discovered they refused to pay it. Would have been an interesting lawsuit. The GOR only includes non-football sports for ND. ND could leave the conference and have football included in the BIG10. There is a difference between being contractually obligated and being forced to. ND can break the contract and do whatever they want to do. They would be open to a lawsuit and monetary damages for breaking the contract, but they can do it.I believe you are correct about ND having to join the ACC if they join a conference during the current contract (Until 2036). See highlighted sentence quoting John Swofford.

IIRC, that was O'Leary's contract, he was the one responsible for the payment, the contract was him, not with Notre Dame. GTAA decided not to pursue the money. They agreed to pay for the buyout of his contract. When his false resume was discovered they refused to pay it. Would have been an interesting lawsuit.
Did they agree with GT to pay his buyout, or was money for the buyout part of O'Leary's contract? If I remember correctly, ND did pay O'Leary $1.5 million, which he could have used to pay the buyout to GT. I don't think it would have made it to a trial if there wasn't a signed contract from ND to GT saying they would pay the buyout directly to GT. Anything between ND and GOL is only between ND and GOL.They agreed to pay for the buyout of his contract. When his false resume was discovered they refused to pay it. Would have been an interesting lawsuit.
