New Mexico just shut down another player for the season, so let's not be surprised if they don't finish out well. Injuries being a mitigant.

I think it's interesting that this thread (including me) is so sensitive to every bit of GT basketball news. The heat goes up and down on BG's seat with every tweet that mentions Tech hoops. These next four games will be a tough stretch to win if we were playing well. I think @RamblinRed Red is correct about the uncertainty regarding BG's future at Tech. That said, I will not be surprised if Clemson is our last win for the season. I will also not be shocked if we get one of these last four, plus a game in the ACCT. If we lose out, the uncertainty diminishes quite a bit.

To be honest I would not be surprised to see Gregory get another year with the team he has assembled for 2015 - 2016. He will have 3 SR, 4 JR and 3 Sophs. plus Bolden if he is still around.
That is a team with a lot of experience. Not recommending, just have seen coaches given that extra year under similar circumstances.

I don't think this will matter unless we close out the season with positive momentum.

Hell, how many more games to we have to win to establish positive momentum? By the time we hit Saturday we will not have lost in a solid week.

On a serious note, I don't believe we're hiring a new coach. MBob made a good call with CPJ and I'm guessing he's patient enough for another year or two here. I'm hoping we hire an assistant that can teach offensive skills because we play decent enough defense for the most part (by my measure as I'm no BB coach) and Gregory is a decent enough guy running a clean program. We just need offense skills help, some recruiting help and PLEASE someone to manage the last 5 mins of the game.

FWIW, it clearly is not a foregone conclusion that we will have a new coach next season. But in the interest of keeping tabs i'll try to keep up when the coaches teams are in action.
Stephen F Austin got back on the winning track (after losing their first conference game in over 2 yrs) last night.
Wichita St is at S. Ill tonight
New Mexico is home vs San Diego St
I'm not going to root for a man, in this case someone who seems to be a decent person who's trying to do right by these kids, to lose his job. Although I see numbers like 50%-50% thrown around, I'd have to think the odds are against CBG right now, and that even he'd be surprised to be back next season.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?

I see no comparison with the CPJ situation, besides the dissatisfaction of emotional fans. Look at conference records, postseason play and reliable, for CPJ, offense. CBG hasn't brought the first two, and I don't think the third either.

In a conversation with one of the higher up development guys, he put it quite simply to me. Any coach we have serves until our AD makes the decision he no longer should. It doesn't matter how much money donors are offering to remove someone, because you can't count on that (something that apparently happened with Gailey at the least and possibly Hewitt). Once the decision is made to remove the coach, it becomes a fundraising opportunity and you go back to those donors to see if they'll put their money where there mouth is.

This actually dovetails well in to why buyout money is not a relative obstacle, in BG's case. Compared to the millions that didn't come through for Gailey or Hewitt, $650K is a relatively easy amount to raise or pay out of cash on hand.

Bingo.
The AD doesn't need to ask the fans or grads to vote. it's not a democracy. The AD is in charge and needs to make decisions based on all the info he has. He certainly understands the pulse of the fanbase (which is more than just those on message boards).

That said, there were rumors that donors were willing to pony up after Hewitt and it didn't materialize.

I shudder to think who LazyAD & Eddie Fogler would have hired if they'd have had additional resources.
