CFB PLAYOFF FINAL AND NO SEC

Please be aware that D2 & FCS only have a 10 game regular season before the media picks the playoff teams and seeding. Good luck getting FBS conferences and schools to agree to drop 2 games.
In my opinion, it needs to be either 8 or 16 and the first rounds are played at home. If I win my conference and ranked in the top half, I want that first round game in my house with my fans in a sell out, not some bye to then play in a neutral site outta state.
Sure about that? I wasn't, so I randomly checked 3 FCS teams - VMI, The Citadel, and Furman. All played 12 games in 2024, with no bowls.

That said, I could see an expanded FBS playoff generating an incentive to do away with conference championships.

Thanks for sharing. It looks like North Dakota State has dominated the playoff for most of the last 15 years, from both high and low seed positions. Seems to me that would support my idea that further expanding the playoffs makes it less likely for anyone but the very stacked teams to win a championship. At least 3 of the other teams listed have also moved up to FBS since then.

They have a sweetheart deal with the ACC. P4 football games guaranteed with 5 ACC a year and also full schedule with all other sports. What a deal. Swofford was such a sucker. They would have an awful time scheduling all those sports if totally independent.
Yes they do, but the ACC reaps rewards for having 5 guaranteed games against ND too. Part of the reason Tech led ACC viewership this year was because they played FSU, ND and UGA.

Is the 68-team NCAAT any better than the 32 team version of the late 70’s/early 80’s?
Yes.

Who doesn't love seeing a 15 oust a second-seeded team? The first two days of March Madness are magical.

Incorrect, Notre Dame actually lowered Tech's average viewership numbers. FSU, Miami, and ugag were the big games that boosted viewership.

Thank you for your opinion. From a monetary standpoint, I would agree. I haven’t watched a first or second round game in years unless it was GT… which means… in years.

LOL. Heading into 2024, only 11 #15-seeds has ever beaten a #2-seed. The record was 11-141, a 7.24 winning percentage. It happens, but not much: 11 in 32 years.

Tech v ND was the #9 most watch game of week 8. None of the other ACC teams the Tech didn't play would have generated that type of viewership except maybe Clemson. Point being ND draws eyes. Not sure why people struggle to acknowledge that.

The playoffs will keep expanding as they should. The portal and NIL have flattened the gap between the upper tier and lower tier teams and have made the middle 60 teams a crapshoot. It’s awesome.

I consider the 2025 National Championship game to be the first legit champion in NCAA history. That we have a #7 seed playing a #8 seed proves that the fake media, BCS, and 4 team champions are all fake.

The next 20 years of data will prove this out and my grandkids of the future will laugh at all these “selected” champions of the past as they should. We are finally close to a legit sport where all schools have a chance if they decide to compete. They no longer have to fight biased media or under the table payments. I can’t wait for further expansion and seeing more fanbases fall in love with the sport.

Nobody is arguing that, but that's not what you said.

Tech led the ACC in average viewership, but not in total viewership. Average viewership for the GT-ND game was 1.59m viewers. Average viewership for Tech was 3.1m viewers. FSU, Miami, ugag, and Vandy all were above the average. ND was below.

FCS played 12 regular season games this year. Normally they play 11 but for some reason the calendar let them play 12 this year

"In championship subdivision football, a member institution shall limit its total regular-season playing schedule with outside competition during the permissible football playing season in any one year to 11 contests (games or scrimmages), except as provided for member institutions located in Alaska and Hawaii, under Bylaw 17.31.2, and except as provided for all members under Bylaw 17.11.6.2. Twelve football contests shall be permissible during those years in which there are 14 Saturdays from the first permissible playing date through the last playing date in November"

Thanks for the update. Since GA Sou has gone to G5 I haven't had a local team that is FCS. D2 is still at 10 per year.

It’s late, and I should be in bed but I was looking everywhere for a thread celebrating the SEC being left out again from the finals. Didn’t see one so here it is.

How do you feel about this? Was the SEC cheated out of their rightful place as Sankey suggested previously? Nah, that’s not a serious question. Is this, along with NIL, the end of SEC hegemony? On a scale of 1-10 how satisfied are you with a final pairing sans the SEC?
It just means less.
