And... Morton muscles up on the Pirates. 6-1 win. Nice game! His slash was 6.1 IP/ 0 ER/ 3 H/ 0 HR/ 7 K/ 1 BB. He tossed 104 pitches with 66 of them being strikes. That's a good ratio for a guy who lives on the edges. Also, his GO/FO ratio was 8/2. Excellent! It tells me his junk was working pretty well.

Morton, though he has had a couple of headscratcher games, is quietly putting together a pretty solid season - especially for a 40-year-old. He's now 5-4, having been the victim of some pretty bad relief pitcher performances, with a 3.89 ERA over 5.2 IP with 87 K against 36 BB and sporting a 1.25 WHIP. That's not bad at all for the 4th pitcher in the rotation. You guys banging on him need to take a look at his production. Of course, comparing him to Sale (2.79 ERA/0.92 WHIP), Fried (3.00 ERA/1.07 WHIP), and Lopez (1.70 ERA/ 1.11 WHIP) can make any 4th guy look worse than he is.

Schwellenbach is rounding into form a little bit now. The one thing that's haunting him right now is the big inning. If he can limit those big innings to 3 or fewer runs, that gives us a much better chance than when he implodes for 5+. I'm too lazy to look it up, but it seems like it's the second time going through the order when it happens. It's all part of the learning process, adjust to the adjustments.

IOW, if Ian Anderson can come back like John Smoltz he may end up in the HoF.

Braves still 8.0 games behind Philly (7.0 in the loss column) despite Philly going 6-4 the last 10 games. Braves hitters just don’t seem to be able to keep any momentum going.

Duvy is 3/11 in his last 3 games, but is 3/22 in his last 7. So, 0/11 in 4 games prior to that. He’s just got to do better. His BABIP is .211, so maybe he’s got a bit of bad luck going. His GO/AO ratio is 0.45, so he’s hitting a lot of long fly balls for outs. Decision time soon. Need Harris back in the lineup.

Yeah, basically  Of course, this does seem to play into a post I made earlier in that Schwellenbach may prove to be that homegrown starter that works better in the bullpen. Could be the cheap way to replace Iglesias. Unfortunately, this also requires a lot of things to fall correctly into place.

Hey, it may just work out. Stranger things have happened.

Braves band out 10 hits a d win behind another gem from Sale and some good RP. The best news? Adam Duvall went 3 for 5 with and RBI double. He’s now 5 for 10 in his last 3 games (.500) and 7 for 25 in his last 7 games (.280). What a lift it would be if he gets hot!

Yeah you've never wavered on him while I've been rippin' him. Good to see signs of life.

Haye they dropped Lopez's last start. He was pretty good, just a couple mistakes but the offense let him down.

Infield errors, I presume?
Olson booted a ground ball, Chavez made a bad throw on a swinging bunt, and Riley missed a decent throw from the catcher on an attempted steal of 3rd base. Also, Philadelphia's first runs scored after the Braves failed to turn a DP, although that was probably more a function of Albies playing in the 3-4 hole for the left handed hitting Stott. He wasn't able to get to 2nd base quick enough to set before receiving the throw from Arcia. They did get the out at 2nd, but Albies was sprinting towards the bag and thus left field and tried to make a jump throw to 1st, but couldn't get anything on it.
