I wish I could believe you. Refs have gotten worse. All sports not just last night. Watch a Braves game and then tell me the league isn't biased against the Braves (name is "insulting"). MLB screws Atlanta at every chance. NFL is comical.I don’t get why everyone thinks Saban is chill on the sidelines… He outbursts if he believes they missed an egregious call. Vanderbilt’s coach was also having outbursts on their side and they were getting the majority of the calls.
Yes, refs will favor a coach who doesn’t get overly upset and is polite the entire game; but the Nick Saban’s & the Kirby Smart’s of the world will be in the back of the refs’ minds the entire game, unlike the polite coach, and that affects how a game is called. It’s just the human psyche. And the coach who is always yelling regardless of what is called will actually hurt his team as the refs will stop believing a word he says and can’t wait for the opportunity to shut him up. CBK isn’t that coach and neither is Saban or Smart or the vast majority of good coaches.
CBK was in the right to get the flag when he did cause at that point in time it no longer felt like the players’ safety was a priority and it was only getting worse. I don’t boo refs but I was booing hard for that one reason. It should be your 1st priority.
It’s on the refs to wonder why a coach/team is upset especially like that. Unfortunately, the refs assumed it was GT’s problem and not theirs. They didn’t change until someone had to step in after the scuffle. That someone continued to help the crew throughout the rest of the game and helped get the game back under control. There’ll be clips and discussions from this game to help better all refs including this crew. Wouldn’t be surprised if some messages are going out right now to make sure other bowl games don’t end up like this one.
I think the refs thought it was going to be a laid-back, enjoyable atmosphere and probably were on holiday break in their minds and took the game for granted.
