Big 10 Refs

I think it is telling that at one point in the fourth quarter, there was a time out. During that period, the on-field announcer gave away a prize package from Konecuh sausage. The winner was a Georgia Tech fan. The announcer said over the loudspeaker “well at least that’s one thing the refs can’t take away from you.” Evidently even the Birmingham Bowl people were aware of how poorly the game was officiated.

My take is that Key seems to be reserved and not question most poor calls against us and then blows up when he has had enough of the poor officiating. As a head coach, he needs to know the rules as well or better than the officials and be able to present his case effectively on all poor calls during the game without pissing off the officials. Yes, it is a tough task. Kirby seems to be a master at this.
BTW, I love our coach!
Knowing the rules and presenting your case has no relevance on judgement calls. If it is a “rules mistake or interpretation”, then yes. The only thing a coach can do is “work the refs”. It’s a subtle art, not achieved (except occasionally) by a complete blowup.

So, you are saying that last night’s refs were just incompetent.
But if they were just incompetent, wouldn't the terrible calls go both ways? As many times as the broadcast crew called out the bad calls and the rules analyst came out and said it was the wrong call, I don't recall any of those going our way. I'm not saying there weren't SOME minor missed calls in our favor as it is not realistic to think the refs get everything right, but it was clear as to which team was getting the benefit throughout the game from the refs.

IMO when you have conference refs they become friends with coaches because they’re on the field with them all season for years. It’s human nature to show favoritism towards friends rather it’s intentional or not. If we can fly college football players all over the country we can fly the refs all over the country. It’s just a few games when the heavyweights play like Ga/GT have big 12 refs come in for that game. Games like GT/Duke have ACC refs to keep cost down. Rivalries and big games fly differently refs in to call the games.

That probably made the problem worse. Refs have huge egos just like everyone else. They probably enjoyed being the stars of the show.

I didnt watch the second half, but I have seen clips of some of the ridiculously bad calls the refs made. At this point, I feel like the horrible officiating is up there with NIL and the transfer portal in terms of ruining college football. It's almost 2025, there have been cameras all over the field and booth review for a good while now, there is no reason this crap should still be happening, and yet nothing seems to be done to fix it. I'm really tired of it all ruining the game, to the point I'm glad I didn't watch the second half because its just a few more hours wasted being angry at the game being botched. It's like playing Monopoly with someone you know every time is going to knock the board off the table and mess everything up because they aren't doing well - even if you win you eventually just don't want to play because it gets ruined over and over.
There is too much money involved now for amateur barney fife's to cost people money and coaches their jobs for bs calls.

That was the funniest part of the game. Got a good chuckle from me as I was walking out of the stadium. Another time he even said "come see Santa, I promise he won't throw a flag on you".

I was there, and it's the worst officiating.I've ever seen. Us tech fans were relentless at booing and voicing their opinions. Not expecting it to change any outcomes, but just to draw attention. Coach got pretty heated but he's a player's coach, just offending, is players. Honestly, I think it fired the players up more showing he had their back and how emotionally invested he was. It's almost impossible to be that vested, and not lose it when something that bad happens, especially spur the moment. Of course, once he had a chance to calm down at the press conference.
And probably not to get find, he did what had to do and said what he had to say

Why would the Big10 refs want to favor an SEC team over us? Honest question, I don't know. But it felt intentional to me.

Let's not forget the phantom holding call on our TE on the scoring drive in the second quarter. I watched that play five times and never saw holding.

When is the last time we got fair officiating playing an SEC team in football or basketball?

As a NCAA ref, myself, refs don’t have agendas
Preach it brother. GT fans lose their minds over officials having agendas. They don't! It's an excuse for losers! Are bad calls made, absolutely, refs are humans! A coach losing it and cussing out officials is never acceptable! It cost more than 15 yards. Key's team lost composure right after he did and it cost GT on the field!

Here is the biggest problem with the so called "make up" calls.

Generally, it's because incompetent or horrendous call/calls are made against a team, and the stripes feel the need to balance it out.

Here's the problem.... when does an egregious call go in favor of tech... I'm waiting. Last, I truly remember was Jasper Sanks and the SEC punished those refs as if to make a statement...you better not get out of line. Anyone remembers the uga games in 04 (ridiculous fumble call resulted in a ugag td), this year, and many others.

For the most part, the make-up calls mean little to the game; however, the bad calls come at the most critical part of the game.

Picking up the flag (after already throwing it) on the catch kick interference was horrendous! The game was 14-13 Vandy and we would have had the ball at the 40 vs our 2-yard line.
The PI, another egregious call, came at a critical part of the game.

I don't care about make up calls and things balancing out. That is why some of us feel there is an agenda tied to money and power.
There is no question that the sec and big 10 want to rule college football and ice out the Acc and Big 12.

It's why they tie so value to preseason rankings based on recruiting rankings that its next to impossible to knock them out of the top 15 as they say...well they beat a quality team and "their conference games are brutal".

It's why they make the argument that Alabama, USC, and/or Ole Missy should've made the playoffs. All based on Sec perception.

Let's be real...Ole miss lost to a pathetic kensucky team that louisville destroyed. Alabama got SMOKED by oklahoma.

This is why they pump up conference superiority as the elite ONLY wants a Big 10 and SEC CFP playoff invitational....Tell me I'm wrong!

Maybe the refs yesterday didn’t haven’t an agenda, but from what I saw, they also shouldn’t have a job.

During one of the many “Ref hou suck” chants during the game, the referee (head official) was shown on the Jumbotron and he started laughing. I think he was enjoying his day.
That was him with the grinch shown next to him.

There was a lot if booing during this guy's broadcasts, I didn't understand why.
