I fail to see a difference in these two words. Can you elaborate?Maybe not bribery but certainly incentivised by the powers that now control college football.

If you have never refereed a game, regardless of the sport, it may be hard for folks to appreciate that our referee/ umpire/judge can only call what they see. They cannot, or are not supposed to, make a call on something that they think happened if they did not see it happen. So, with the luxury of hindsight, multiple camera angles, etc. It's easy to say that they made bad calls. Technically they are bad calls but not intentionally done so.Maybe no agendas but they still make bad calls. These guys put on a seminar today for making bad calls.
How about this no agenda they were just terrible and should be relieved of any future service. The only real calls against vandy were blatant and the biggest calls against Tech one was blatantly wrong and the other pi$$ poor judgement. Those two calls changed the direction of the game. Bad calls happen, but those two were sooooo bad it made hard to excuse.Preach it brother. GT fans lose their minds over officials having agendas. They don't! It's an excuse for losers! Are bad calls made, absolutely, refs are humans! A coach losing it and cussing out officials is never acceptable! It cost more than 15 yards. Key's team lost composure right after he did and it cost GT on the field!
I saw that as well.I think it was the touchdown they made after the interception on the corner route, but their wide receiver had full arm extension to create space to score that touchdown. Another horrible no call and should’ve been offensive passing interference.
Reffing is like working for DFACS. The only time anyone notices you is when something goes wrong. If you have never refereed a game, regardless of the sport, it may be hard for folks to appreciate that our referee/ umpire/judge can only call what they see. They certainly pushed the Conecuh Sausage during the game. But, we should not have been booing the folks during the presentations during the game.I think it is telling that at one point in the fourth quarter, there was a time out. During that period, the on-field announcer gave away a prize package from Konecuh sausage. The winner was a Georgia Tech fan. The announcer said over the loudspeaker “well at least that’s one thing the refs can’t take away from you.” Evidently even the Birmingham Bowl people were aware of how poorly the game was officiated.
probably the last call Tech got was probably the fumble against Miami last year. whether it was a fumble or not, was kinda controversial but the biggest tragedy for miami in that game was cristobal being allergic to a qb kneel and their defense deciding not to play after that. Here is the biggest problem with the so called "make up" calls.
Generally, it's because incompetent or horrendous call/calls are made against a team, and the stripes feel the need to balance it out.
Here's the problem.... when does an egregious call go in favor of tech... I'm waiting. Last, I truly remember was Jasper Sanks and the SEC punished those refs as if to make a statement...you better not get out of line. Anyone remembers the uga games in 04 (ridiculous fumble call resulted in a ugag td), this year, and many others.
For the most part, the make-up calls mean little to the game; however, the bad calls come at the most critical part of the game.
Picking up the flag (after already throwing it) on the catch kick interference was horrendous! The game was 14-13 Vandy and we would have had the ball at the 40 vs our 2-yard line.
The PI, another egregious call, came at a critical part of the game.
I don't care about make up calls and things balancing out. That is why some of us feel there is an agenda tied to money and power.
There is no question that the sec and big 10 want to rule college football and ice out the Acc and Big 12.
It's why they tie so value to preseason rankings based on recruiting rankings that its next to impossible to knock them out of the top 15 as they say...well they beat a quality team and "their conference games are brutal".
It's why they make the argument that Alabama, USC, and/or Ole Missy should've made the playoffs. All based on Sec perception.
Let's be real...Ole miss lost to a pathetic kensucky team that louisville destroyed. Alabama got SMOKED by oklahoma.
This is why they pump up conference superiority as the elite ONLY wants a Big 10 and SEC CFP playoff invitational....Tell me I'm wrong!
Well, in the announcers defense, on the replay they did say something like “he may have gotten away with a push off”. However, it was obvious with no one else around the two players involved. The only way to have missed that is if the official that was supposed to be watching that action had his view blocked by the receiver himself. I assume it was the back judge who had responsibility for that call?I saw that as well.
Clear offensive PI on the Vandy receiver. The announcers said NOTHING. Obvious push off.
I think booing of him started when he came on and asked “Is everyone having a good time?”. I don’t think people were booing him per se, just reacting to the question. I’ll give him credit. He seemed to take it in stride and actually made some pretty funny comments after that. There was a lot if booing during this guy's broadcasts, I didn't understand why.
How often have you witnessed ****ty calls? Blown calls? As a NCAA ref, myself, refs don’t have agendas
What do expect from the states biggest fish wrap suppier?"The officiating shortchanged Georgia Tech Friday night, and anyone in white and gold would likely replace “shortchanged” with a more colorful synonym."
Sorry for the spelling!!What do expect from the states biggest fish wrap suppier?
Thank you for your thoughts. The issue as I saw it was uneven penalty calls. The PI on Tobe (?) where he got pushed off on the TD pass was the worst. After that the Tatum foul when he was trying his best with hands up not to interfere and the guy slowed up and they made contact as he was going OOB. Just very ticky-tack, when they weren’t being called both ways that tight. The third was the Vandy punt. The Tech player brushed him, but did push, 5 yards away… and the Vandy player himself went 5 yards and tackled the Tech player having never touched the ball. There was no need to tackle - and I think contact could have been avoided altogether. The correct call, IMPO, was PF in GT for block in the back (due to the slight) push, but a defensive holding on VU (due to the tackle of a player not in possession of the ball). The result should have been offsetting penalties, replay the down.I don’t get why everyone thinks Saban is chill on the sidelines… He outbursts if he believes they missed an egregious call. Vanderbilt’s coach was also having outbursts on their side and they were getting the majority of the calls.
Yes, refs will favor a coach who doesn’t get overly upset and is polite the entire game; but the Nick Saban’s & the Kirby Smart’s of the world will be in the back of the refs’ minds the entire game, unlike the polite coach, and that affects how a game is called. It’s just the human psyche. And the coach who is always yelling regardless of what is called will actually hurt his team as the refs will stop believing a word he says and can’t wait for the opportunity to shut him up. CBK isn’t that coach and neither is Saban or Smart or the vast majority of good coaches.
CBK was in the right to get the flag when he did cause at that point in time it no longer felt like the players’ safety was a priority and it was only getting worse. I don’t boo refs but I was booing hard for that one reason. It should be your 1st priority.
It’s on the refs to wonder why a coach/team is upset especially like that. Unfortunately, the refs assumed it was GT’s problem and not theirs. They didn’t change until someone had to step in after the scuffle. That someone continued to help the crew throughout the rest of the game and helped get the game back under control. There’ll be clips and discussions from this game to help better all refs including this crew. Wouldn’t be surprised if some messages are going out right now to make sure other bowl games don’t end up like this one.
I think the refs thought it was going to be a laid-back, enjoyable atmosphere and probably were on holiday break in their minds and took the game for granted.
Well, bribery is considered a felony offense which is a little strong for what is happening in college football. The refs are made aware what is in the best interest of their employer (their conference), and their judgments on the field of play will impact their success, or lack of success, and hence their compensation. Very subtle and impossible to prove in a court of law as bribery. Just my opinion.I fail to see a difference in these two words. Can you elaborate?
