Fun dialogue over the Nats / Braves series. Braves are best in division for a reason. Nats don't quite have the pitching to win & close gap.

Over last 2 series Braves are 4-3. [I do have to note, you're 0-1 in games Strasburg or Scherzer starts... yep, I'm mildly bitter about the fact you only saw 1 of those guys 1 time in 7 games]

On surface... it appears Braves got better yesterday than the Nationals. Wildcard "watch"... here we go.

Hi Fred;
You’re a class act, and on the mark about the Braves not seeing Scherzer at all and missing Strasburg this week. I think we are a better team with Swanson and Kakes. Marky does the little things, like hitting lefties well. We got hot and a little lucky with Duvall, Inciarte. Sort of like when Riley was called up. Let’s see what happens when the scouting reports get around the league? The Atlanta G.M. has stated that he’s ready to ride Soroka, Fried all the way through October. Some are questioning his reasoning. Mike pitched 7 yesterday, giving up 1 run and looked strong to me(although you were there in person, witnessed live). Shamed by the bullpen, for a no decision. Both teams have holes in that department, therefore went out and traded for three relievers each. Whether that’s enough to overcome the Dodgers(who promoted a 21 y.o. phenom named May to counter us), we shall see. I don’t think either of us will win the pennant, however the games have to be played. May they be more enjoyable to watch at the end now for both of us. Hopefully, both of our clubs face each other right before the World Series. Houston looks like the favorite in the A.L., now, over the Yankees. But again, who knows what will happen? Enjoy the race!
BuzzyB.

For us fans way too soon to worry about 2021. Lets enjoy now for maybe the greatest and most fun pro team ever in Atlanta history!!!!!
I’m not disagreeing at all with “enjoy it today,” because baseball has become that sport. Teams don’t want 30 somethings that have established themselves and are metrically declining. They want controllable players. A host of other intangibles go into the thought process like how much can we pay a set-up man? Is a closer worth 8 figures a year?

The good news is we have a rich farm system, therefore the ones who don’t become top end starters can become closers with two great pitches. Or a guy like Newk. or Touki may not have priced their way out of a bullpen job.

This may be looked back upon as the season turning point, not only weathering the storm but winning 4 of 6 vs. Division contenders.
In a long season timing has a lot to do with the outcome, and not playing well coming into these last two series I though we might be in big trouble.
Fred, not sure why the Nats got off to such a bad start this season, I assume it was mostly injury related.
With a strong lineup and starting rotation of Strausburg-Scherzer-Corbin-Sanchez, I believe the Nats will make the post-season (baring further injury).
My most favorite comment from the moves we made at the trade deadline ... "They (Braves) addressed their walk issue's in a drastic way, upgrading with a trio of plus-command pitchers, any of whom could close a game"

I'm glad the Braves didn't trade for Craig Kimbrel this season:) Craig Kimbrel has a 6.17 ERA for the Cubs and looks like he's way over the hill:cigar:
