I'm glad the Braves didn't trade for Craig Kimbrel this season:) Craig Kimbrel has a 6.17 ERA for the Cubs and looks like he's way over the hill:cigar:
Not sure I agree. He has had 13 appearances and was scored on in 2 of his first 3 games...which one can attribute to rust. Since then, he has pitched shutout baseball in 9 of 10 appearances. He has 8 Saves and 2 Blown Saves. Luke Jackson has 17 Saves and 7 Blown Saves, so Kimbrel is our-performing Jackson by miles (not saying much, I know). I think Kimbrel is still a very solid closer. If you ignore his first 3 outings when he was still knocking the rust off, his 7 Saves and 1 Blown Save since then would rank him 3rd in the NL in terms of Save %.

This may be looked back upon as the season turning point, not only weathering the storm but winning 4 of 6 vs. Division contenders.
In a long season timing has a lot to do with the outcome, and not playing well coming into these last two series I though we might be in big trouble.
Fred, not sure why the Nats got off to such a bad start this season, I assume it was mostly injury related.
With a strong lineup and starting rotation of Strausburg-Scherzer-Corbin-Sanchez, I believe the Nats will make the post-season (baring further injury).
My most favorite comment from the moves we made at the trade deadline ... "They (Braves) addressed their walk issue's in a drastic way, upgrading with a trio of plus-command pitchers, any of whom could close a game"
Yeah... there was an untenable number of injuries early on. The Nationals still have worst bullpen ERA in MLB. However.... there was a slight improvement when they fired Liliquist (pitching coach) in early May. Further proof that anytime you can kick a Bulldawg to the curb... you should... post haste.

@Buzzbomb I enjoyed the live action... not the results, obviously. Nationals had chances yesterday & probably should have won the game. 3rd base coach really messed up IMO. Thanks to control issues from Braves relievers... Nationals got the rare second chance to get a walkoff win. But could not put the ball in play in right place to end game.

I'm totally aligned with your assessment. It's Dodgers pennant to lose. As a fan, I remain happy as long as my team remains relevant. Since I am not waiting until October to squeeze the "joy juice" out of my baseball team, I get plenty of fun with each game....until it ends. I'm already pretty sure it will end early in playoffs (at the latest) for my team. I hope we do get to a series with the Dodgers (as WC winner). Anything beyond that is gravy.

  • One of the starters the Braves had interest in was the biggest name moved at the trade deadline, as ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports (Twitter link) that the “Braves were in on” negotiations about Zack Greinke with the Diamondbacks. However, Atlanta ultimately decided “it was just too pricey, and too much risk on an older pitcher.” The Astros ended up landing Greinke for a big trade package that included four prospects and covering $53MM of Greinke’s salary obligations.
  • Speaking of the Greene deal, the Braves were able to make that trade without including catcher Alex Jackson, as Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that Atlanta turned down the Tigers’ ask for the 23-year-old prospect. Jackson is ranked as the the 26th-best prospect in Atlanta’s system by MLB Pipeline, and is in the midst of a huge season at Triple-A (.887 OPS in 283 PA). Picked sixth overall by the Mariners in the 2014 draft, Jackson’s prospect stock dropped after a slow start to his pro career, though a position switch to catcher three years ago and this season’s hitting breakout has gotten him back on the radar.
