Wow! Not sure if this is old news or not but sounds like it is a very big deal. Just pray GT is not in the middle anywhere here although I would be shocked if we were.

We haven't had any reason for folks to bribe us in a long time, so I'm sure we're clean.
A couple of other notes.
one of the people arrested is the Merl Code, the head of Nike's EYBL program.
Also, part of the indictment includes conversations with a coach from a FL school (believed to be Miami) telling the Adidas guy that a prospect needs $150K to outbid another apparel manufacturer (likely Nike) and not attend another school.
The 4 coaches represent schools that have contracts with Nike (AZ, OK ST) , Under Armour (AUB, USC).
Especially since this is a criminal indictment, this could get really messy and maybe change a few things over the long run.
No wonder why GT had problems attracting players with Russell.

I wonder if Nike or UA played a role in this given Adidas meteoric comeback in recent years. No better way to hinder a competitor than to rat them out in a game you know everyone is playing. The shoe business at the high school and college level is dirty at times. If you read Shoe Dog, Phil Knight's memoir on starting Nike, it gives you a glimpse at the things shoe companies do to each other.
This is an interesting article. Moreso for the coaches that were left off or not even mentioned than who made the lists:

I'm going to leave a permanent redirect from the football forum thread to the basketball forum thread, since this is focused on basketball (so far).

https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/press-release/file/998756/downloadDoes anyone understand what the charges actually are before the press conference? I don't understand what would be illegal about paying players or recruits. I don't understand what would be illegal about paying a coach to talk to a current player about signing with a shoe company. All would be against NCAA rules, but NCAA rules are not law.
