Duke is playing well. If they had played like this during the season they would have been a lot closer to the tourney. I really don't want to see them again - though I guess if we see them in the championship game I'll be happy. UNC has an offensive rebounding rate over 70% so I expect they get past ND. If they do get past ND, I do think UNC will take out VT.

I have to admit I am happier playing Miami than Clempsons. They do have talent - more talent than their record indicates - but I am hoping a dialed in GT is better than a Miami on third day in a row.
UNC currently busy giving ND a healthy beat down. My goodness

I was at the ACC Tournament today - so nice to see in person hoops for first time all season!

Observations ....
-- Syracuse zone surprised me to a degree - thought is was more traditional 2-1-2 when I see them at McCamish .... it is really a 2-2-1 with the middle two really extended to wings with a lot of movement/rotation. State has two bigs neither of which make good (or quick) decisions when they get the ball at high post ... was ugly. Boeheim shot it great, especially in first half. Syracuse needs to shoot like they did today and they can beat UVA.
-- Miami basically played 1 on 1 ... very very few assists ... walked it up unless off turnover to slow the pace ... #23 and Wong doing a lot of 1 on 1 ... They did everything they could at end to lose -but got lucky. They played man defense and had to chase the Clemson shooters all over the court. Can't see them having great legs tomorrow - they play as short a bench as GT does (maybe shorter) and will be third game in three days. Moses should have his way inside if we get it to him there.
-- Duke looked good - but we both thought Lousiville really looked bad ... not good enough for NIT bad. Duke took care of business - impressive but not overly impressive. FSU should take them out tomorrow but will not be easy. My oldest daughter went to FSU - so the GT sweatshirt comes off for that and I will have garnett/gold under it to support FSU - along with the Carolina fans.
-- UNC looked good, glad we played them when we did - Notre Dame bad ... UNC just threw ball up and get rebound until you score .. at one time they had 31 shots to ND's 10. I expect them to take VT out easily. I expect FSU-UNC in the other semi ... if it ends up being UNC-Duke I actually get to go to a UNC-Duke game (something I have never done).

I guess about 3000 in the place? Hard to tell. In upper level there are four people per row and every other row empty.
UNC, Duke, and State had the most fans as expected .... but you could still hear coaches yelling a lot (Brownell and Boeheim in particular).
Finally get to see GT in person for first time this season tomorrow!!!

Miami goes 7 deep in their rotation, with 1 of them being a former walk-on (getting double digits minutes). Their starting 5 will basically have to all go 35+ minutes.
They will look to play slow, we need to push and get in transition, play with a quick pace.

I think I'd rather play FSU over UNC. UNC has a ton of size down low to get Moses into trouble. Moses had one of his worst games against UNC this year and Jose shot out of his mind from the field shooting 80%.

Jose hasn't been nearly as good in the 2nd half of the season. Devoe is hit and miss. We bully teams with equal or less size, but teams with 2-3 guys 6'9 and over can beat us up if our guards don't make it rain. UNC also looks like they came into the tourney on a mission.

Interesting - the first time we’ll be taking shots in Greensboro Coliseum is in pregame warmups. That’s not ideal

Well, you also just posted that you’re also worried we’re not in the ACCT. what’s next - the temperature in there being 3° different than we’re used to? 🤷‍♂️

Well, it won’t be 48-18 at halftime today, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a 40 to high 20s halftime score. I hope we run on our fresh legs.

Maybe I can find a better game preview than this, but on the other hand, we kind of know what Miami looks like

We’re both relatively slow tempo teams (Miami is 201st and we’re 219th, which is a lot lower than I thought). We are perceived as being weak defensively against the three and that we only have Moses in the frontcourt.

I’m looking for Usher and Devoe to play big games today

When you say looking for big games from Usher and Devoe is that your expectation or is that your hope?

Yea, for a Tech fan site, that was an extremely lazy and shallow “preview”.

Some of both. If I was Jim Laranaga, my first goal would be to shut down Moses. My second would be to slow Alvarado down, thinking he’s not 100%. I think there will be openings for other players to step up, and I think Devoe and Usher are the logical two.

Alternatively, if Laranaga is thinking more team defense than shutting down a star player or two, our scoring is heavier from two. We haven’t been connecting on a lot of threes (at least, compared to other teams). Maybe they’ll run a 1970’s style zone and not worry about outside shooting at all.

Here are some conference numbers. We’re low in tempo. We’re 10th in three point scoring (below average). We’re 4th in 2 point scoring. We’re first and third in percentage from 2 and 3, so we’re efficient. Our opponents are 9th in percentage from 2 and 11th in percentage from 3, so we’re good defensively. We’re way below average in rebounding, we’re not great in turnovers (but our opponents are worse), and we’re great in assists and steals.

Miami isn’t good at rebounding, so they aren’t particularly strong where we’re weak.

Given this, sounds like the game plan should be to get Usher and Devoe involved early and often and see how Miami responds.

Certainly not an original thought but I see Moses having a big game. He has been absolutely unleashed of late. I don’t think Miami can stop him.

I dunno, guys. Miami's coming into this game with a major chip on their shoulders. They're on a roll and we'll be coming in flat-footed.

In short, I are scared.

(You're welcome fo the reverse-jinx. Wait, did I jinx the reverse-jinx?)
i have some concern as well. lots of positive press for the jackets lately. hopefully our kids stay grounded

Miami is on a winning streak. They beat BC, then Pitt, then Clemson. They might have beaten BC on free throws. The charity stripe was a big factor against Pitt, too
