I am curious to see if our guys will play for 40 minutes like it really matters. They did it for 10 last night. Thank god it was clemson.

Well, I told my UVA coworker that I expect the line to be 10 before it was confirmed. So, I think it's fair. UVA is clearly better than us and has been playing better than us.

I wouldn't touch this line given the way end of games can play out (e.g., UVA w/ a slight lead and extends it to +10 w/ last minute FTs, GT down miserably but backdoors the cover with UVA running clock).

If forced I'd take UVA because I think general perception over-values us. I don't really see a scenario where we win or are close in the end unless Q or Smith go wild, kind of like the last one we played against them. UVA is playing better now and the game is in DMV i.e., expect a few Cavs fans.

When Clemson was building their lead the announcers kept yammering about how the Tigers were taking advantage of Tech's poor "ball screen defense". No comment about our defensive adjustments that drove the comeback. What changed, besides MGH getting fouled and Clem going cold?

Of our conf L's, we've only lost 1 by double digits (@ CLEM). A few of those games we probably should have lost by more, but made a late run to make it look closer than it actually was (Duke & @ Pitt off the top of my head). I'd take the points, but not GT straight up.

This is a good point. There's many reasons why I rarely bet and don't consider this an obvious one, and the backdoor cover examples that you mention is one of them. Add Louisville to our list of backdoor covers as well.

Reason I lean slightly toward UVA... The Cavs are playing a different caliber of basketball right now than the aforementioned teams. There's a reason they beat Louisville by 20+ on Sunday. The Cards felt the squeeze. Given their generally solid and consistent defense I think it's harder to backdoor cover against the Cavs.

But again, +10 feels right, so I guess we have roughly a 50/50 shot to make up the points. And it's March, so it's time for the Cavs to fade away.

Last night a few things happened

1-Avry Holmes stopped making shots. (He had 19 with about 10 to go I think)

2-Blossomgame got into foul trouble

3-Adam Smith was unconscious shooting the ball

4-MGH got aggressive and made it count at the line.

I don't think our defense got substantially better in the second half.

We stopped turning the ball over as much, and I think our D did get more disciplined. They had fewer wide open looks.

But they also followed the script cbg used ag vpi, trying to burn clock w/8 min left.

A Couple of things imo.
GT got very aggressive with MGH going to the basket alot.
Adam hit a couple of shots (I wouldn't say he got hot - he was 8-16 overall and 4-7 from 3 for the game). He hit a couple of timely shots.
Clemson finally started to revert to percentages late in the game. They were 10-22 from 3-pt range and ended up 10-29. Why they kept taking threes when they were up late is a mystery to me. Should have tried to go inside more and foul out some GT guys (Mitchell fouled out and MGH and Smith both had 4).

I stopped watching the game to put my son to bed (I think this was clearly the biggest reason). I assumed they had lost until I checked the score around 10 pm.

You and RR shouldn't feel bad. Just about everybody in chat during the game had accepted that we were gonna lose. We were all pleasantly surprised to see our guys fight back.

Also, it's always exciting to witness a full fledge clemsonning. How many times will you get to do that in your life? Well, a lot but still.

We didn't play with much energy for 30 minutes, then turned it up. I think you are right that Clemson played their hand badly late. The combination let us back in the game. Again, MGH played strong when it counted most.

We outscored them 31-13 over the last 8:27. Like you said, not INCREDIBLE defense, but amazing offensive explosion

If I'm right, we scored on 16/16 possession during that stretch (other than the one where James went to the line and missed them both). EVERY. SINGLE. POSSESSION.

When I say our defense didn't improve a great deal it's not really a knock. Clemson is not a strong offensive team. Eventually you knew they were going to return to the mean. But, kudos to our guys for capitalizing on their opportunities.

While Clemson was pulling away from us during the second half, I was thinking "Well, if this game isn't a microcosm of the whole CBG regime..."

Then the comeback. MGH started doing the things I've been saying he should do the past few seasons (take command of the game, go to the basket at will, and just impose himself), we didn't turn the ball over, and we started putting pressure on their key players defensively causing them to get into foul trouble. At this point, I'm coming to the conclusion that MGH doesn't realize how good he could be, because on some nights he plays like he's one of the premier players in the ACC. That's the player we got Wednesday night.

You could tell Mitchell wanted this one BADLY, and was disappointed to leave the game. Our guys battled. Gotta give CBG credit where it's due, one of the hallmarks of his tenure is that his guys play hard until the very end.

Great win, and happy to see a guy like MGH extend his GT career another game. Now let's beat UVA!

I give Gregory zero credit. THATS RIGHT I SAID IT.

All about our players deciding they were going to do what they had to do. Because at the end we were still running the same crap offense. Adam hit some timely, big shots, MGH got selfish (good thing) and Clemson got cold and played not to lose.

But I have an agenda and cannot be taken seriously. And I'm ok with that.

I have no love for CBG but he made some good adjustments yesterday. I think bringing in Heath for D was a good idea, and I think sticking James White on Blossomgame was ok as well.
