I feel bad for the player. Very unfair...

...but I do like the thought of the clownshow starring BOTH the NCAA & UNC.

Meh. I think he should've had to sit just like all the other players that had waivers denied and didn't make a big stink about it, but the NCAA is such a disaster at this point almost nothing they do will hold up to scrutiny.

Yeah… I don’t know the whole situation but I’m sure the circumstances aren’t unique to him and / or UNC. Im sure that many kids in similar circumstances are sitting out because the spotlight isn’t directed toward them and influence of their respective program isn’t as big.
Seems the NCAA is still their own worst enemy.

I want to be clear, my issue with the NCAA is its hypocrisy. I think any non-graduate transfer should have to sit out for a year. However, when Tez Walker is ineligible while JT Daniels is on his 17th team, there's something wrong with how the rules are being applied.

JT Daniels is a grad student, his transfers to both WV and Rice were as a grad student which does not have the same restrictions as an undergrad.

Yes, but he was allowed to transfer from USC to athens as an undergrad without sitting out because of the COVID rules. It would have been practically impossible for him to transfer more than once without the virus-induced waiver. Again, I'm not saying I support the current rules, but if he's still allowed to play, Tez Walker should be too. Why does he automatically get exempted from sitting out a year just because he transferred during COVID?

Everyone gets 1 free transfer these days, so that was his one free transfer from USC to ugag. The transfers to WVU and Rice were as a grad student.

Tez already transferred once as an undergrad, from NC Central to Kent State. Since he is still an undergrad, he was not eligible for a 2nd free transfer without sitting a year.

Sorry, I might not have been very clear with what I meant by my previous message. My point is that he was only able to make the third transfer because of the COVID year. Under normal circumstances, he would have been unable to make that transfer because he simply would have run out of eligibility. In other words, the NCAA pretty much just threw all of the rules out of the window for a period of time, but now is deciding to selectively enforce them. I'm not saying Daniels' situation is exactly comparable to Tez's, I'm just using him as an example to illustrate my larger views regarding the ineptitude of the NCAA.

But everyone got an extra year of eligibility because of covid, including Tez - he's in his 4th year of school but still considered a redshirt sophmore assuming he doesnt play more than 4 games this season. That isn't unique to Daniels and he's not the only one still playing that started in 2018. Just from Tech's 2018 class, Dontae Smith, Jordan Domineck, Zamari Walton, and Jaylon King are all still playing.

The argument for Tez' eligibility is that his 1st school cancelled their season in 2020, so he didn't really get an opportunity to play that year and so the 1st transfer "shouldn't count". However he chose to transfer, though many of his teammates did not who then played for NC Central the following season, and unfortunately the school deciding to cancel one season was not one of the accepted reasons for an additional free transfer like the program being shutdown/coaching change/etc.

I know that — again, wasn't trying to make a one-to-one comparison, and my goal wasn't to single Daniels out.

Regarding Tez's situation specifically, it really doesn't matter that NC Central played the following season. Put yourself in his shoes — if your school canceled one season, why couldn't they cancel the next? Those were obviously extraordinary circumstances, so his transfer in that moment shouldn't count against him. They never even played a game while he was on campus.

And I didn't even mention the personal stuff, which seems legitimate.

I understand the frustration with what appears to be selective rule enforcement by the NCAA. However, from what has been disclosed, Tez was initially not eligible for a waiver by rule.

I suspect the problem was there was not any written guidance for Tez’s specific situation in order for the NCAA to grant a waiver. It's like saying “There should be an exception to the law for that” – but if there isn’t one, it’s still not legal. We may know more if additional details are released about what caused the NCAA to finally grant the waiver.

In my opinion, if the NCAA is going to have rules, they need to be enforced uniformly across all schools and among all athletes. If a rule is unenforceable, it shouldn’t be a rule (see: tampering). My biggest gripe about the NCAA and their rules right now is that NIL + Tampering is extremely detrimental to the sport. The NCAA’s response to this issue was to remove the only rule (transfer ineligibility) that could have limited the problem.

The UNC argument was that he transferred 2 days before the NCAA announced the transfer rule. The NCAA is nothing more than a joke now. Walker claimed he never played st Central during the COVID year . UNC is his third team.

My cat Pepper did just last week with admittedly mixed results. She had him for a moment but he broke the tackle and scampered up a tree and engaged in some pretty nifty taunting with his tail going up and down while he was looking down at a frustrated Pepper. I told Pepper she needs to wrap up.
