State of Mich continues to have issues.

Mich loses to SMU and in a loss that matches the MI-NJIT shocker, Mich St loses in overtime to 1-8 Texas Southern.

Wake loses respectably to a mediocre FL team. Wake had 3 guards suspended today.
2 were suspended for today for conduct detrimental to the team. Starting PG Mitchell Wilkeben has been suspended 6 games by the NCAA - Wake says it will appeal. Wilkeben would be eligible again for the GT game if the suspension is upheld.

and in another example of why I dislike the RPI the most of all college basketball ratings (though it is helping GT this year)
GT is currently #42 in the RPI (with a SoS of 87), Notre Dame is 11-1 with a #111 RPI ranking and a SoS.
Currently GT is the 5th highest rated ACC team in the RPI. And it really all come down to how you schedule. GT has played multiple road games (you get more points for road wins), hasn't played any teams ranked below 250 and that has allowed GT to keep its RPI relatively high even though it hasn't played great basketball.

In KenPom GT is in the 80's and Massey has GT at 70. That sounds closer to reality.

FWIW. Nice win for Dayton last night. Sort of a typical first game post loss. Dayton has not been shooting that well this year (sub 30% threes) but hits 52% from the floor and 47% threes (including 5-5 by a little used FR) to roll Boston University.

I know we've discussed how the SEC has had a rash of terrible losses, but what's going on in the B1G, which won the ACC/B1G challenge?

Here's an interesting discussion topic for you. SEC once again has the worst record against P5 teams - winning 35% of them (KY has 4 of the wins).
Listening to a podcast with Gary Parrish and Mike DeCourcy yesterday, Mike had an interesting hypothesis. He feels that the overwhelming success of SEC football is hurting basketball. Not due to resources, but due to talent.

He says if you look at the gulf states (LA, MS, AL) and to a lesser extent GA now compared to 5 years ago, the number of Top 100 prospects in those states are down considerably from that earlier time period. He believes that the success of SEC football is steering more of the athletic talents in those states to football at an earlier age, reducing the amount of athletic talent playing basketball. Sort of an interesting hypothesis.

Halftime at UVA
UVA 39 Harvard 8 (2 FT with 7 seconds in half to get to 8).

Harvard - 1 made field goal in the first half. (1-20). No FG last 16:32.
UVA is so good. 2nd best team in ACC behind Duke.
They are so fundamentally sound both offensively and defensively.

Florida is in trouble. Only 7-5 with little in the way of good wins. Probably has to go 12-6 in the SEC to get to the Tourney.

More bad news for FSU.

Aaron Thomas has decided to sign with an agent (and likely get a European contract) rather than try to get eligible for next season.
So the player they were expecting to be their leading scorer this year and next is gone.

I watched quite a bit of this game. Talk about some teams that cant shoot a lick. Dang.

However, I like Phil Cofer a lot. he is going to be a good one.
