Wasn’t super effective the way they ran it, but they’d line up in a flexbone. It wasn’t just “we’ll adapt some principles” it was more of a “we’ll copy the formation and run it identically, or try to” approach.

and @GTNavyNuke I might have argued with you about the coastal last year (and I think I did), but this year it looks clearly like the weakest of the P5 divisions, and weaker than a lot of G5 conferences.

I watched a lot of the first half. When the color commentator spoke to why Duke adapted to using the offense, he said that Cutcliffe told him something to the effect of, "when we played Army... saw what Army did at Oklahaoma... we knew it was a good offense when you're outmatched". Make of that what you want. I can see a number of explicit and implicit interpretations.

I hope Coach Collins starts telling offensive recruits that they’ll never get to the NFL playing in Duke’s new offense. And I hope he tells defensive recruits that they’ll lose their knees practicing against it. If Cutcliffe was fine bashing that offense to recruits both privately and publicly for years, I hope he’s ready for the shoe to be on the other foot.

Maybe I'm weird, but I think this is a great idea. We ran the flexbone some back in 1999 too:
