ACC Bowl Discussion

The ACCs football mediocrity is well-established. This year was particularly mediocre. Clemson managed to win the championship against a field of average teams. ...some exposed late (Miami & SMU).

Love how this nitwit changes time frames to fit his narrative. Since 2020, GT is 1-1 in bowl games. Dook is 2-0. Pitt is now 1-2. Clem is 3-2. Cuse is now 1-2. Etc…

With the way the bowls are today, with the Portal and the opt-outs, these games are not being played by the same teams that played the regular season. They can still be entertaining, but they have truly reverted back to exhibition games. They hold no meaning with regards to how good a team is or how deep a conference is. I say this if the ACC is 1-9 or 9-1.

The ACC bowl record speaks volumes about the quality of football in the conference. When Tech, which we all think is an ACC star, gets beaten by the perennial bottom feeder of the SEC…
That’s not a good take. Vandy beat Bama, so to categorize them that way this year is simply…wrong. We got beat by a solid team that got tons of help at critical moments from lousy refs. But they are close to us in terms of quality at this moment. If we played 10 times, I think GT would win 6 out of 10…but they aren’t your Daddy’s Vanderbilt anymore.

Why? Just refuse the self-loathing. The ACC is a very competitive conference that has lost a bunch of 1-score games this bowl season. We’re not the best, but not a bad conference.

I agree that we GT and ACC fans should be as positive as possible. The issue that concerns me is the effect that this negative publicity will have on the public's perception of the conference and in particular the effect on recruiting. In my opinion. the national narrative will be like the excerpt below from the article.

The ACC’s poor showing raises questions about the conference’s competitiveness on the national stage. Despite strong individual programs, the collective performance in bowl games has left fans and analysts wondering if structural changes are needed to bolster the conference’s football credibility. From top-ranked teams failing to perform to depth issues across the board, the ACC faces an uphill battle in restoring its status as a powerhouse.

Two things:
1. The ACC has NEVER been seen as a football powerhouse.
2. Almost all those losses were competitive games. You can point at losses but you cannot utter the word “noncompetitive.”

That perennial bottom feeder beat Alabama and lost to Texas and Mizzou by 3. They finished tied with Arkansas, one game behind Florida in the SECheat. They were no doormat.
Furthermore, 5 of our 9 bowl losses were by 1 score. Very competitive games.

Bowl season means very little and with the December portal season, it means even less.

No excuses. Acc stunk up the joint going 1-9 but there is a HUGE reason the AAC is at the top of the bowl standings

The portal even affected multiple CFP teams including the backup PSU QB who is still in the CFP.

Miami wins going away had Cam Ward not opted out of the 2nd half. So now players opt out in the middle of a game??? That's how silly this has become. I wouldn't be shocked if the one acc team predicted to lose wins and that is Puke v Ole missy because multiple players opted out for the miss.

How it affects Tech is simple...the narrative the media eSECPN wants to paint now has legs and they can use it to screw the acc next year for a team like SMU. Make it in the top 10 or win the conference and you're in.
Next year, the acc better win head to head non conference matchups.

Or the ACC better win the National Championship in basketball.

I'm personally not a fan of the ACC but I can't stand this whole win for the conference garbage. Never understood how awBarn wins for the mutts winning a title....We've created a culture of tribalism. I think the whole ACC, Big 10, or SEC chants are silly. Tech wins. Not the Acc. Tech loses. Not the Acc. Secheat conference is the worst about this. You can have a one-win Kentucky chanting Sec or showing up to Louisville games that is not a game between the two. Sound familiar. Mutt fans showed up in Birmingham. Biggest dbag fans do this.

It's simple...the media and conference perception is pushed to dominate the college landscape.

You might get a mulligan for this bowl season if the big 10 or sec don't win the natty so Go ND (Ugghhh...can't believe i said that) or Boise State.

Bowl games only matter now to teams that don't lose heavily in the portal or actually want to be there.

12 team playoff, NIL, and the portal have absolutely destroyed college football and bowl season.

Bowl season doesn’t matter period.

Bowl season doesn’t matter period.
Agreed except for the extra practice time especially now with the portal to get younger players ready.

The Miami game should prove to everyone that bowl season no longer matters.
Just call it professional football. Have the kids sign contracts. Enact free agency. Eliminate the ncaa and portal seasons.

And to be honest, I can't stomach the nfl but unfortunately that's the world of college professional football.

No "win one for the gipper" or "ole state u".

When was the last time bowl season had any real relevance?

The way I see it , is that some schools / conferences see more relevance to these than others because those schools have very little chance at a playoff seed.

The acc is kind of stuck in a weird spot,
Consistently bad in bowls, but consistently good enough for a single playoff seed school.

and btw...

Who gives a flying rip about eSECpn....does anyone actually watch that garbage. I used to love to watch gameday, but I won't waste one minute of my time on that crap

I usually listen to our play by play guy if its on the network.

Do yourself a favor...get off social media and pay no attention to the media who has nothing but agendas....Your life will be so much better.

For the "bowls don't matter crowd" how do explain 1 - 9 or 13 - 28 statistic in @FredJacket's post above? Is this merely random in your eyes? Is the ACC somehow more affected by players entering the portal or sitting out than the other conferences. These (imo) seem like variables that should be evenly distributed enough amongst the conferences to allow for something closer to a .500 record. Maybe 1 bowl season is too small a sample size. But I am not one who thinks this can be merely dismissed as random chance.
