680 The Fan, The Flagship Station???

As some of you know I'm in the process of moving back to Atlanta after 10 years or so in Nashville and, needless to say, I was looking forward to hearing local coverage of my beloved Jackets!!! Well, I've been here for a little less than 2 months and can say I hear less here that I did in Nashville!

Each day on my drive to and from work I have the radio on listening to 93.7 and 92.9. Now I wouldn't necessarily expect a lot of coverage on 92.9 but what I hear on there far exceeds what I hear on 93.7! This afternoon on the chuck and chernoff show they were talking about the big college games this weekend. I was expecting at least a few minutes on the Tech/duh U game (after all it is the flagship station) and what did I hear? chuck goes STTE of well, the ACC, nothing there let's go on to SEC games! I about came unglued! This the station that, through David Dickey, came to Tech and want to be Tech's FLAGSHIP station? Then Tech and the ACC gets crapped on like that?

When I got in this evening I did send MBob an email on this and I hope he has someone pull the tape and listen to just how bad Tech is being addressed by the station personnel?

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent and I look forward to y'alls feedback!

I listen to 93.7 every day both ways in the car. It is obvious, they have a total disdain for TECH. They are huge Special Education Conference homers. Those guys act like they know everything there is to know about sports, pro, college or otherwise. I am going to find a different station. No matter how TECH does this year, it won't matter with those guys.

On top of that, I was listening to 680 earlier today and after they spent several minutes talking about LSU, A&M, Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia, Vanderbilt, and Ole Miss, then Texas and Baylor, they said let's talk about Tech a little bit. Steak then pronounced that Tech MIGHT have a chance because Miami is a bad team, but acknowledged that they beat Duke, but only because Duke is worse, and then said the ACC is a terrible conference. They then went back to the SEC. So far our OOC results haven't been stellar this year, but they have been bottom of the barrel either. Also, I noticed the 680 van outside Bobby Dodd after the GSU game, and they had stickers for the Hawks, Dwags, Braves, and Falcons, but nothing about Tech could be found. I think they need to reconsider the term flagship.

It takes a big win for them to talk...then they always cap it with well...they are in the acc, or they will lose next week or something about CPJ's offense. If I were the coach i would let the players know that even the home town radio doesn't even believe in you...better go show'em. If geogia was 4-0 they wouldn't be able to get another word in on any other topic.

I think 680 made a mistake by bringing any of the 790 guys over...they are still hurt that Tech left them and came to 680...even though weren't still there. Those guys are a waste of air space.

Yes, it's always that way on the airwaves around here. But, they are selling advertising and ATL listeners are mostly SEC fans. With year in and year out powerhouses like Vandy, MS ST, KY, Ole MS, and AR that teams like the Mutts have to conquer to be able to come up short of their goals each year and depress their fan base, is it any wonder Muck and Jerkoff consider it the greatest conference in the US from the bottom up?

I was listening to 680 today and heard that segment about Miami being terrible. He went on to say how Duke, NC State, Virginia, the whole ACC is terrible. So, basically they are saying - "no matter how many teams we beat this year, it won't matter and we aren't going to cover you." And- the way they talk about Tech fans, like I have heard several times them say things like "I know you Tech fans, you are going to be angry that we are dissing your team, but we love Tech and we are saying this because we are trying to be objective" or something similar. I have thought about calling in as a Dawg or Auburn fan and talking for a second about the SEC then mentioning that I "happened to be watching Georgia Tech and that QB looks like the real deal" because I don't think we would get any airtime otherwise.

This is just one of the things we have to live with. Our graduates go on to much better jobs than "talking head on radio" or "guy who drops taters in the fry-vat" (equivalent jobs, imo).

These sorts of jobs are what graduates of Clarke County Correctional Community College (and other SEC "collidjes") aspire to. It's the best that they can accomplish. We should pat them on the back, and say "nice job, Corky".

Tech has some of the medias most prominent talking heads. What you are saying is off if i am reading you right. Techs problem is those guys need to prop the institute more than they do. Other than charlie and trip.

I used to listen to 680, but yeah, its a little hard to stomach if you are a Tech fan. A couple of days before the Tech Southern game they were talking about the weekends games and mentioned that one. Steak kinda jokingly asked Finneran if he had any interest in it and Finneran replied, yeah two really exciting offenses to watch...sike. He managed to not only bash Tech for no reason but took a shot at Southern for no reason as well. Steak and the female host just laughed as well. It was all so smug. It seems like rather poor business to just crap on all of the local teams except UGA. Not saying you have to build us up for no reason or cover us as much as UGA but im not really sure what needless bashing of us accomplishes aside from getting me to never listen to them anymore. Id much rather listen to Mike and Mike talk about NFL football in the morning over on 790.
