After watching the games today, I think the home field advantage is too big at this level of game. I think if all four of these games were reversed, the opposite would have happened, except for the Indiana game.

I don’t know brother, the 4 teams that won are just better football teams and have better players these 4 teams win regardless of where the games are played. Home field advantage may have caused them to get spanked the way they did. I believe James Franklin and Coach Day would be finding new jobs today had they lost, it was must win games.

Agree with this take. The only surprise to me was how dominant Ohio State was over Tennessee. That was the biggest blowout of the 4 games! Penn State is better than SMU. Home field clearly mattered as it should. Jennings (SMU QB) looked overwhelmed playing in the freezing temperature in front of 110K hostile fans! Clemson played 3 SEC teams and lost to all 3 so losing to Texas was not a surprise. I didn't watch the ND vs Indiana game so I can't comment on it!

Yep, rather uninspiring games. Clem could have made it really tight but blew it. It’s like watching the #1-16 game the NCAAT. Often it is a blowout, yet the 16-seed is just excited to be there. Meh.

What really showed this weekend is the disparity from the teams that are historically 1-5 in the old system, vs teams that aren't.
Cfb has to make up it's mind if it's strength of schedule, overall record, or quality losses that matter most.

By pure record SMU and Indiana belonged in these games, but by strength of schedule they didn't.
I mean you could argue yes that Miami would have been a better acc slot than SMU for example

The cold may be a psychological factor but I’ve heard players say once the game starts you don’t even notice it. On the other hand I’ve heard players not used to playing in hot high humidity weather that it was a major distraction.
hot high humidity might be more of a distraction, but at this time of the year, you aren't going to really get that.

I have not seen the TV ratings for the CFP games, but the attendance was nearly perfect. The visiting teams may not have liked it, but the atmosphere was electric at all four venues.

ND 77,000+
Texas 101,000

It’s an awful stretch to have this take away… or any takeaway at all to be honest.
First, the sample size is pretty small to start making assertions.
Second, these blowouts happened when we had the “historical 1-5” in the old system.
Third, there are all sorts of possibilities for the early results including the oft mentioned strength of schedule and the amount of advantage hosting a first round game.
Wins by either Boise or ASU won’t settle much either. Would that indicate that SOS is not as big a deal or would it indicate that home games are a huge deal?
The reality is that right now everyone is seeing what they want to see. It’s going to be a while before we know what is a pattern or an aberration.

Can’t dictate who gets in with just conference champions!
But you should. That’s the whole point. How can you be a national champion without being a conference champion? Or at least having every conference champion represented. If they would’ve went to a playoff featuring every conference champion instead of the BCS in 1998, I doubt any of this ridiculous conference realignment and media propaganda for the SEC/B1G would’ve happened.

Sorry but the “G” conferences don’t all get automatic bids in any sensible playoff.
