The ACC standings (and runup to ACC Tourney seeding) is pretty insane. UVA is currently 9th in the conference and Ga Tech is 3rd. It is mathematically possible for UVA to finish ahead of Ga Tech in the standings (UVA with tiebreaker over Ga Tech).... with only 2 game remaining.

We've already talked about importance of finishing in top 4 for seeding/advantage in pool play for the tournament. Winning Coastal assures #2 seed. I think the path to Coastal is as follows:
1) Go 2-0
or
2) Go 1-1 AND Miami lose at least 1 of next 2.
Mathematically impossible to win Coastal if swept by UNC (they'll pass us).

ND has clinched #1 overall. Then there are 8 teams at .500 or better (up to .581). I wanted to try to noodle through how Ga Tech can still be a top4 IF they don't manage to win the Coastal. Too hard for my brain. But trying anyway... I think(?) it is literally (certainly nearly) impossible to be a top4 if we go 0-2 rest of the way. We would not deserve it.
If we go 1-1 and Miami wins Coastal (goes 2-0 Fri/Sat), we need NC State v FSU to NOT be 1-1. One team needs to go 2-0 Fri/Sat. If all that happens, the top4 would be:
1-ND
2-Miami
3-NC State/FSU (whichever won BOTH Fri/Sat)
4-GaTech

REALLY need to WIN Coastal AND pull for NC State... don't want to see them in our pool at the tournament.

If the chart above is how everyone finishes, then we would be seeded 2 as Coastal champs.

Rather than think about this, I just opened another beer.

BLUF: Get swept and we don't deserve to win Coastal. Win 2 and were in. Win 1 and if Miami sweeps L'Ville at L'Ville, they really deserve it.

Just win (and drink).

Pitt lost again at Wake. They are 5th in the Coastal and 9th in the ACC - and get a Regional? ****ing bull****.

Miami is way overdue to lose.

Looks like a win tomorrow gets us the 2-seed. If we lose, need Miami to lose as well.

I'm with you; Miami is due a loss here. They're living on borrowed time.

Only 16 teams get a regional. Pitt was one of 20 as "potential hosts" ... I don't know about the other 19 but willing to bet Pitt is 20th of 20 right now. No baseball at Pitt until February.

Frickin Home Depot Clearance quality carpet they call a field? Pitt's luck ran out.

NC State won again. Watch out for them in the tourney.

Only GT and Miami can win Coastal now. Advantage GT.

I thought about that last night. But I'd rather be seeded as high as possible.

It does look like NCST has locked up a 3
#3 seed... but should we meet them in semis, at least it would be with Grissom starting & not a 4th starter.

Ok... I'll put the horse back in front of the cart now. One step at a time.

ERA.. Miami & Louisville get going at noon today. One hr before Ga Tech.

Going to be a fun day (hopefully) of afternoon baseball, but for sure entertaining. To quote @Fredstrodamus during the late inning scoring melee "Well isn't this entertaining" as we relinquished the lead.

Concerning the ACC Tourney, there is a big rest advantage to not playing Saturday or Sunday. The all time winningest coach Mike Martin used to say that he wasn't that excited about advancing in the ACC tourney since he wanted his team rested for the NCAAs. He didn't do too bad in the NCAAs. Speaking of @Fredstrodamus, can we start a push where he has to change his ID to that if we clinch the Coastal today? I mean that was just some funny **** last night (paraphrasing) “I’m calling a HR here, these next couple guys are due.” Literally not 1 minute before it happened. 🤩
