Braves traded Butler(an All-Star, & fan fav. like Riley, Freddie), future star 3B Jacoby, and a good young pitcher Rick Behanna, for Len “Lame” Barker. He got hurt, we got little to nothing from him. Mark Texiera was here for one year, supposedly to put us over the hump(which it didn’t, chemistry was horrible)for 5 young studs. Elvis Andrus an AStar SS, Jerrod Saltalamacchia another fan fav. Catcher, Matt Harrison a Pitcher valued like Wright is right now, Beau Jones an OF, and young Neftali Perez who was another Soroka.
I think Mike might back me up, in that those were the worst two trades in Brave franchise history dating back to Boston? When you break your farm system up, it takes years to recover. The average HS player takes 6 years to scratch MLB. College prospects can typically get here in 4 years. Problem was, those were HS guys we gave up. Braves were shy drafting college dudes, until Alex insisted on the FD to start mixing it up.
Back then, 1 out of 13 minor leaguers made the majors. It’s better now, since players stay in the minors longer, because of bonus money and MLB money is so much better now. I was offered 8k by the Cardinals out of a tryout camp at 16 y.o. So you might have needed to go through 100 prospects to come up with those 8 stud muffins the Indians and Rangers insisted on in trade. They don’t give their stars away.

I honestly don't mind it. I like Donaldson, but he is 34 years old, wanted a 4 or 5 year deal, and has been injury prone.
We also need to get rid of some prospects. I know that sounds weird, but there are a lot of high level players in the lower minors who deserve promotions, but are blocked.
I would start with the Rockies and offer Wright, Touissant, Muller, and Riley for Arenado maybe also add a Jenista or Harris to sweeten the pot. Arenado would have to approve the deal, but I feel like he would. If you can get one of the top 5 players in baseball, you absolutely do it.
For Bryant, I would do a package of Wright, Wilson, Camargo/Riley, and Contreras.

Yes. Glad this is over. But Nationals still need a 3rd baseman. Reading @THWG's post... I wish we had one to trade for all those prospects.
Nothing can mess up my day, though. The hockey team up here re-signed Nick Backstrom today...an outstanding (unselfish) player & all-around good dude. He represented himself & just wanted to stay in DC. Just couldn't imagine putting on a different uniform (his words). This probably means he'll spend entire career in DC. Something rarely seen these days... now we have Zimmerman (Nats) & Backstrom (Caps) setup for that situation. As a fan... that will be really cool.
No coincidence... the Capitals & Nationals are really well run organizations with solid, committed ownership, effective GM's, well-respected coaches, & veteran leaders on their rosters who put team/winning above personal attention.

Top 5 player in baseball and only Mike Trout is better imo. He has won 8 straight gold gloves and routinely hits 35 home runs with over 100 rbis.

He actually hits as well on the road as in the mile high. Huge contract last year was for 7 or 8 years. Can opt out after 2021. No trade clause. Great defender. Power. Hits for a decent average for all the EB hits he gives you. Don’t think the Rockies really want to trade him.
