I'd say that NIU would beg to differ on the 'it takes 5 - 7 years for an O-line to develop' mantra.

Look at their roster...mostly underclassman:

60Evan BussOL6-6315FrKimberly, WI
72Brendan CarrOL6-7293FrHanna, IN
76John ChampeOL6-4321FrBrookfield, WI
70Marques CoxOL6-6306SophPeoria, IL
75Leif EngstrandOL6-8331FrOconomowoc, WI
68Marko GbedoOL6-3330FrAlsip, IL
79J.J. LippeOL6-5311FrMilwaukee, WI
73Brandon MacKinnonOL6-5282FrLakeville, MA
50Pete NygraOL6-4289FrNorth Indianapolis, IN
58Brayden PattonOL6-5309SrEllettsville, IN
77Luke PinnickOL6-4291FrState Center, IA
74Tyler PitcelOL6-4306FrMukwonago, WI

66Anthony VaculaOL6-4325FrHales Corners, WI
78Jack WiltyOL6-4309FrAltoona, IA

and they have been WAY more successful than GT in that regard. Sad, but true.
Those are some big’ uns there. We need to start recruiting midwestern farm boys.

Wait a minute here friend! I would say I have derived more satisfaction out of WaHo than I have from GT FB over the last 5 or 6 years. Don't blame the Waffle House for our recent struggles. ;)
Exactly! Waffle House has mastered elite levels of dining mediocrity. Personally I love it because there are never any surprises, it’s always the same, and you know what you are getting every time.

Arent you counting cpj last class as cgc class?
Cgc was here by himself trying to hire staff and we accepted that group.

.
I'm counting everyone. There were zero OL recruits in 2019. I went through this in a previous post in this thread if you want to look it up. The bottom line is we've had two OL classes under CGC, '20 and '21, so his earliest OL recruit will be entering Year 3 on the GT campus, That would be a junior or RS sophomore under normal circumstances.

They're also not facing the front 7 we are. So, there's always that. Not exactly apples to apples. But, we should have performed better.

I know that, but the recruiting isn't the problem, it's the coaching. And it might be a 40 rank, but the point is that we got three 4-star linemen, two of them on defense. We got what we needed most.
Others more knowledgeable can confirm or refute this but there are rumblings that the two defensive linemen are not exactly "oven ready" as the saying goes. One was injured and did not even play his senior year and the other ballooned up 40lbs and was moved to offense. Caveat Emptor applies to recruiting and the portal much as it does in kicking the tires in a used car lot. IIWII

K.J. Miles didn't play last year, but he committed to us over Texas and Wisconsin.
Lockett is up to 338 lbs. and will probably need to pare that down. Or maybe he'll get paired with Biggers and we'll go with twin nose guards.
At some point soon, I hope all this recruiting will translate to Ws.

Agree we need beef . Hope Austin Smith returns- he was progressing

I want to be comparing gt to 2021 Pitt w a 6th year qb that was second in Heisman because had all sr ol.
Is being able to be good in NIU s league our goal. We played tertible against them and lost by 1 point . Gt played soft in many phases all season.

A part of the lack of push ' is that we are not drive blocking, but are taking the defender where he wanted to go then a little more.
.The oc was fiewd because he called plays that hzd everyone of front 7 next to the los. When ol guy may have made a hole, it was filled by the lb

I looked at 2021 top qbs list on espn We
we faced 6 damn good qbs. Bennett, Pickett, Van dyke, Armstrong, Howell, Coan at 35.

MOST are Sr with sr ol.
