I think one of the issues that continues to linger is the 2013 recruiting class. It only had 14 players to begin with, and only seven remain. Hard to overcome that gap in recruiting. It's a big reason for the numbers you cite above.
It's always fun saying coach X should be fired. And while this isn't intended to be a defense of Roof, Kevin Steele seems to be doing just fine at LSU. Maybe the players have something to do with it, and maybe Roof's improved recruiting will pay off. I don't know, but I do know that...
There's certainly room for criticism, but if there's a consistent theme from the fire the coach crowd, it's that they're posting on the blog during the games, which means they aren't at the games. I have no reason to value their opinion.
Yeah, this is bullish--. The best teams don't win more close games; they just play fewer of them. Alabama is the standard by which everyone is judged. Their record in one possession games since Saban's been there? 16-15.
The offensive line has been debilitating, but with the A-backs and B-backs, the real issue is that spring practice was entirely lost. The guys who got the bulk of the reps then are now hurt, which means we've been behind schedule all year. Think back - we expected Legget and Weimerskirch to...
Tyler Cooksey is the one I think has a ton of potential. I think Mitchell and Alexander are going to be good, too, and I'm hopeful that A.J. Gray doesn't outgrow safety.
I'm going to cheat and say it was a non-injury. It was Dennis Andrews's dismissal. He was a devastating blocker on the edge last year, and we're missing that desperately this season.
So many awesome ideas! Let's add more stuff for our guys to learn and execute when they're clearly struggling with the eight plays we already run.
I have a better idea. Let's have a little faith in the guy who has been doing this stuff for a living for 35 years and has been pretty damn...
This is an interesting thread, because I was just reading David Hale's mailbag on ESPN's ACC website, and he got a question about the depth of the Clemson defensive line and the workload they've had so far. He said they used to rotate about 60/40 between first team and second team. That...
I don't think we'll win tomorrow - because I think Clemson is really good, especially defensively - but I wonder how much these predictions would change had A.J. Gray kept his feet at Duke and D.J. White hung on to the ball versus Carolina.
This is a fun narrative! In the UGA game last year they went right down the field the first time. Their offense would not see the end zone again until there were :19 seconds left in the game. If you want to believe Climpsun was going to run us out of the bundling, that's fine. But your...
The issues aren't leadership or intangibles. The issues are actually very identifiable. We have sustained too many injuries at positions we could not withstand them, and the delta between the starters and replacements is larger because of that. For example, had we sustained an injury in...
I actually thought the sky kick we did against UGA last year was the proper call. They had ten guys at the line and only one deep man. Still tough to be overly critical, as we were an inch away from it not hitting us and getting the ball.
