The challenge was Reggie. He quelled recruiting for years. Who wants to be the multi-year backup to the ACCROTY and entrenched starter?
Your basic catch-22. Reggie was good enough (or had a pedigree that was good enough) to scare off competition, but wasn't really particularly good... AARGH.
His responsibility is to build a better roster. If we had talented youngsters to step in to cover the injuries, that would be one thing. But he hasn't brought those guys to campus.
He negotiated the assistant budget. If he didn't think he could succeed under that constraint, he shouldn't...
I agree. It was a lot more fun when at the end of the season, you were happy (or unhappy) to be ranked 4 vs 14, rather than today's more or less binary system where you either win the NC or you don't. In the old system, success was defined differently and a lot more fans went into the...
I thought his read was "They keep snapping it to me. Must mean I'm supposed to carry it."
He was a very talented guy, but either wasn't confident in his ability to distribute the ball, or was convinced he should always be the guy with the ball.
I think the recruiting was as much CPJ choosing to not play "the game" as the scheme. He just wasn't gonna deal with 17 year old prima donna's and their baggage.
As far as mismatches of "their" offense vs "our" defense, we saw "modern" offenses every weekend. The opposition saw the TO once a...
I am not a fan of lining everyone up tight to score in the red zone. I'm a fan of spreading people out and running it between the tackles. If you bunch everyone up, you're depending on your front 7/8/9 to be stronger than theirs. Ours aren't stronger than Clemson's. If you spread things out...
I'd call it 3 mistakes. 1) The delay of game. 2) Operating out of the SG. 3) Not having the QB take a direct snap and run a sneak. Handing the ball off there is moronic.
It will be interesting if the that question is asked of CGC. I think our best chance for a win last night was to let Gibbs catch the ball and take it to the house. I think it is a low percentage bet, but better than any of the other options.
You may not lose your job because of an injury, but I think you can lose it if the replacement comes in and plays better than you. That's what I've seen with Yates. He has played better in 2.5 games than Sims played in any 2.5 game stretch.
The message to Sims has to be "Take care of the ball and make good decisions on the field."
All the talent in the world won't win games unless you do those things first.
Distinct possibility. But I *have* to see improved fundamentals this year. Fewer turnovers, fewer penalties, fewer mental mistakes on the sidelines. I genuinely believe the staff can improve the Jimmy's and Joe's side of things. Whether they can get the most from the Jimmy's and Joe's remains...
