  1. Good news

No doubt Reggie extended a lot of effort on the field. I never questioned his effort or intent. But he had three problems - 1) The opponents got to him. He lacked the maturity to ignore them. 2) His accuracy was mediocre at best. 3) His mechanics were poor in that he telegraphed his throws...
  2. Good news

Gailey was a decent QB away from establishing himself as a top shelf head coach at GT. Was the failure to get a better option at QB or develop the one(s) he had his responsibility? Yep, same with the OC. But I thought he ran the program well, despite being hobbled by the fallout from the...
  3. Has the ACC fallen to the bottom of the Power 5?

I think you're being pretty tough on the home team, as it were. Clemson is really good. I think a couple of DQ's and a playcaller being lost to COVID mattered yesterday. ND is good, but ran into a buzzsaw. UNC was 2 dropped passes away from beating A&M. My sense is that Clemson is still top...
  4. Coaching revolving door in motion

There's an NCAA rule that you can't do it. Maybe looking at replays from 7 different angles would give you and advantage. Maybe they think Saban would install 20 more cameras and hire 20 assistants to monitor them and relay any observations in near real time. Either way, its against the rules.
  5. Coaching revolving door in motion

Dissatisfied with his role in the game? I wonder what that's about? Rules tell him what he can and can't do during the game (absolutely nothing), and Yabba Dabo would have been stupid to let him close to the team, given that he was covid positive.
  6. Bowl Season 2020

SWMBO is an Aggie, so I watch a lot of A&M football. The only good team they beat this year was Florida. After that, they beat a very down SECW and the bottom end of the SECE. I've never thought their QB came through in big games (but he looks great against lesser competition). I don't know...
  7. Bowl Season 2020

I think there was a lack of effort by some of the guys on UF's defense. All it takes is one or two and things unwind quickly.
  8. Bowl Season 2020

Interesting. I have been disappointed (?) by their front 7. ND really punished them, and OSU has done the same. Not much pass rush from Clemson in either game.
  9. Bowl Season 2020

Look at their skill position players, particularly their wideouts. In the day of supremely athletic wide receivers and dynamic offenses, they are badly out-athleted at that position by UA's DB's.
  10. National Signing Day Coverage

We are largely using the portal for younger guys with several years of eligibility left. That can be foundational. It would be different if we were bringing in guys with one year of eligibility left to fill short term needs.
  11. Off Season How well do you know Georgia Tech Football

I'd forgotten the Al Lugenbill move. Yeah, I always suspected the divide had a racial component, but that was never stated. I'm sure it also went to Donnie being a 4th year guy who'd been a teammate for a long time and put in a bunch of work following a knee injury only to be replaced by a guy...
  12. Off Season How well do you know Georgia Tech Football

Very highly rated recruit. Thought to be "The next big deal" under Ross/Friedgen. Didn't have a great Junior (?) year under Lewis, so he brought in Tommy Lugenbill as a Juco transfer/starter the next year. The team was badly divided over the move. Lugenbill played OK, but wasn't the answer...
  13. Coaching revolving door in motion

Yes. For a year. Prior to that, most of his experience is /was in Texas and at Boise state. So I assume his connections in the SE will be fairly limited. Auburn has a history of good recruiting. And paying people. I'm sure they will do fine.
  14. Coaching revolving door in motion

Really surprising choice. Recruiting is regional. He won't have the contacts in the SE. He'll have to hire some assistants with good rolodexes for Auburn's recruiting grounds.
  15. Harvin Named Ray Guy Award Finalist and Consensus All-American

There was also some competition (Time Man of the Year?) where George P. Burdell was running away with it until the powers that be stepped in.
  16. Question about a past incident involving football players.

Sorry man. You don't hit anyone because they call you a name. And you don't hit a woman for any reason.
  17. Off Season How well do you know Georgia Tech Football

I had a pretty good line of sight on the second one and thought we recovered. To add to the mess, up until that game, Charley Ward had been giving away interceptions all season. That day, the light came on for him and he went on to win the Heisman. If he'd have thrown us just one pick, that...
  18. Any chance ND gets snubbed? Final 4 prediction

You're right. My bad. I just watched Brian Kelly being interviewed on ESPN. "Can't let the kids go home for the holidays because of COVID risks." Yep, football and $$ are far more important than those players and their families and the holidays. Queue "Money, Money, Money" by ABBA.
  19. Question about a past incident involving football players.

Those gates closed pretty slowly. I remember escaping as they closed at least once.
  20. Question about a past incident involving football players.

Holy Necropost, Batman! Salisbury's story (as told to me first person) was that there was in incident and he was throwing a punch at the boyfriend and she jumped in to break it up and took the punch. I believe there was smack talk and a pitcher dumped on someone which led up to actual punches...
