Earlier in the year (Northern Illinois being an outlier), I thought the trendline was up. The last 3-4 games have definitely reversed the trend, if there was one.
The Gailey boo's were completely uncalled for. That was a well coached regime, needing a QB and maybe an OC. We were rock solid, if unspectacular, under Gailey.
Untrue. WE don't have a great offense.
Seriously, we have a 30th percentile scheme with coaching and disipline to match. Talent ain't great either. Move the scheme, coaching, and discipline to better than average and things will get a LOT better.
We may have to pull a Cremins... Take a flyer on a guy who is way down the "Next Guy Up" list for coaches. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. (See: Gregory)
Our offense is as vanilla as a cone from Dairy Queen. There is nothing innovative or different about it. We absolutely need an innovator to have success on the offensive side of the ball.
No. He seemed to be a guy with limited experience and results who had some recruiting success in a previous life here. He is/was an effort to go a different direction - energy, recruiting, love of Tech, that kind of thing. Oh, and hopefully he could coach or bring a staff that could coach.
No...
In today's environment, we're not going to recruit well enough to do what everyone else does and win consistently. We absolutely need to create schematic differences - 3O, Air Raid, whatever. Running a vanilla 2021 college offense has no upside.
Wind the clock back 3 years. You get to pick any of the folks who were interested in the job.
Name your choice. Better, name one that meets your criteria.
That's the problem. We aren't high enough in the pecking order to lure a proven commodity. We have to roll the dice.
We rolled and...
Truth is, sometimes you make a great hire (Bobby Cremins) and sometimes you get a bad hire (Bill Lewis). Same AD hired both of those guys.
TStan doesn't get the axe for this.
I literally came in and sat down in front of the TV at that point in the game. I was so impressed I didn't stay seated long enough to see the early/bad snap on the 3rd try at 3rd down.
I spent the next couple of hours closing our pool. The only problem was the game was still on when I was done...
I was tossing out a name. If you have a better one in mind (or even a realistic one), I'd love to hear it. I'm at the point of thinking we're in an unrecoverable situation. No coaching, no money, no options...
OK, let's say the coordinators are toast. Setting aside the money issues, what competent (or even good/innovative) coordinators are gonna sign on to the Collins clown show?
I think we're backed into a really bad corner unless someone (Brent Key?) can step up and get this thing back on the rails.
Yep. Just hopeless. Sure, ND has better talent, but we're doing a horrible job with the talent we have. You can teach anyone how to line up and how to NOT make all of the mental and pre-snap mistakes.
I genuinely don't see an upside with this staff.
