I often wonder if CGC is as invested as he wants us to believe. Some people lose their focus if all of a sudden they are making more money than they ever dreamed, have a beautiful new home, big cars, "fancy" ( ahem) suits. He may think he is livin' the dream , and blocks all the problems out....

As a life long fan and season tix holder, here are a few of my recommendations for CGC to turn the Titanic around for next year given he is not going to be fired or replaced by our AD.

1. This weeks radio show is an hour of CGC bending the knee to the fans, Step into the kitchen and take the heat of some phone calls and emailed questions and man up and answer them.
2. Demote Thacker to LB coach and say you are taking over the Defense this week. Then go to Stansbury and offer some of your salary and some of Thackers to hire an OC for next year.
3. Give the Coordinators carte blanche to hire their assistants, using some of that $40 million from the 2021 Fundraising to pay them.
4. Eliminate "burn" and "elite" from your vocabulary. Talk like an adult.
5. Get a real suit. See number 4
6. No more "404" " money down" "rap videos at practice" and "juice crew". Concentrate on the basics. Football.

Just some simple steps that, for me, would show he and Stansbury actually want me to renew my tix next season.
nice stuff but not number 2 Thacker just needs to go

But CGC would not do any of this he thinks he is too good to listen or answer the fans

1. Won't actually accomplish anything. It would be cathartic for some fans to berate him but little else.
2. This doesn't make sense. Taking over the defense this week won't mean anything as we're so outmanned that it won't make a difference. For next year if you're bringing in a new DC you want him to have his own staff so demoting Thacker would be pointless as would offering part of Thacker's salary since he wouldn't be here anymore to begin with.
3. This is often the case with new coordinators and would expect it to be the case if we got a new DC this year. OC would be different as I think likely Choice and Key staying would be talked about before any hire was made.

4,5, and 6 are stupid complaints and him "fixing" it won't address anything. You can see that with Pastner. His schtick is charming now that we're having success. It would be very different, and was, if we we were struggling.

Yeah, and he has 4 million reasons to get himself fired this year instead of next.

We are in the Coastal division of the ACC where mediocrity is the ceiling for most teams. If second tier SEC teams were placed in the Coastal, the carnage would be devastating. I have little regard for the ACC in football. For many schools, football is just something to pass the time until basketball practice starts.

Imo, there is little difference between the SEC East and the ACC Coastal. Uga excluded...they seem commited to the sport and it shows. But I think USCE, Ky, UT, UF, et al would join in the scrum of teams who go 4-4 in the division. I fully expect GT to climb back up into that quagmire in the next few years. But maybe I am optimistic.

it was all sunshine and roses wasn't it? folks' memories of the last regime are like childbirth - the second it's over, it was a wonderful experience. they forget all the pain and screaming that happened just hours before.
It was in fact generally more good and bad and there was some great, and very very little terrible. I‘m biased as I always was a CPJ fan, but the record pretty matches this.

What we have now is garbage juice…

Fwiw, Pastner’s attitude never bothered me. He’s somewhat similar, but no where near as used car salesman like. And there’s one key difference. Even when we were struggling under Pastner we looked like we were making positive strides. You could see us building towards something. I don’t really see that with the football team.

I think Geoff is so lost in his own narratives, that he doesn't know any better. It's like a train wreck, in slow motion, over and over.

Collins never coached for Saban. He was in Player Development. I doubt he attended a single meeting with Saban.
Interesting in his coach’s show this week they were introducing Patrick Suddes and CGC said something to the effect that he and Suddes built the roster and (roster management) program at Bama. Something tells me Saban would not remember it That way.

would that work out in your business? Not mine
I could definitively see a case where my board could vote to bring in a VP of C level of a department if the company could not buy me out of my CEO position and the board felt like that could help turn things around. Not sure why people are caught up with this. Stuff like this happens all the time. It is usually never made public is the only thing but it is common even in coaching circles.

Now I am a great CEO and I strive for an elite level excellence in everything we do :)

That is an important piece of data. How did you arrive at this figure?
I used my prior analysis of the impact of the decline from Chan Gailey attendance levels for games without large, local opponent fan bases like BC @ Grant Field with 51,112 in 2007 to 2021 BC with 31,511.

Here is a larger set of Chan Gailey era details (when GT did not have an option offense, had sound defense, was competitive, went bowling yearly, had star players, and ranked off and on yearly) attendance numbers. As our option days are behind us now - for better or for worse, I do not want a debate of the offense.

Excluding his 1st season when BDS had not yet been expanded to 55K seats, Chan Gailey had 4 of 5 seasons with GT FB home attendance over 50K. In fact, 3 or 5 were over 51K.

Paul Johnson only had 2 of his 11 seasons (2009 & 2015) with over a 50K attendance average. To be fair to Paul, only 2 of his 11 seasons (2012 & 2018) were lower attended on average than Collins’ 1st season.
It must be stated that the QUALITY of both GT’s Opponents scheduled as well as GT’s Competitiveness appear to directly drive the attendance at our games. Also, “Marquee” early games (especially wins or close losses) pay massive dividends to GT attendance - See opening wins of 2003 & 2005 over Auburn win, 2005 over Clemson, 2006 narrow loss to Notre Dame, & 2007 blowout of Notre Dame.

This is also true for Paul Johnson with his amazing 2008 debut season beating Clemson, FSU, Miami, and UGA. The following season, GT FB averaged 51.5K attendance. As our schedule has moved away from playing “traditional power teams early” to scheduling cupcakes, I believe it has definitely hurt attendance.

While I have purchased every year since I moved back to ATL in 1991, it appears that some GT fan have fallen into the habit of only buying season tickets on the years that UGA plays us at Grant Field. This is sad as they are NOT buying basketball season tickets instead.

Even more foreboding, averaging under 35K this season and not having the UGA game to boost sales, 2022 looks to be the lowest attended season in 20+ years - unless we start winning again.

Untrue. WE don't have a great offense.

Seriously, we have a 30th percentile scheme with coaching and disipline to match. Talent ain't great either. Move the scheme, coaching, and discipline to better than average and things will get a LOT better.
We don't know why Johnson quit because he left like a professional and went off to play golf. I would only be guessing but part of it was his own fan base didn't see enough wins and didn't care about the rest of it. And while some liked, even appreciated, his demeanor and personality, a lot didn't. Donors get touchy feely, snuggling tight and love 'em a lot. He was never into that. But had he stayed he still was just a QB away from ACC championship play.

If you don't follow CFB outside of Tech, USC just became bowl eligible tonight after winning 3 games in each of the last two seasons and Vegas having their wins at 3.5. They paid Will Muschamp something like $13million in a buyout and brought in the coach they wanted this year. FCS transfer at QB, transfers filling in the secondary because most left after the coaching change, and a coaching staff that maybe has 1 big name on it. They are definitely a model of just biting the bullet and moving forward and getting the right guy instead of the flashy guy. Just a thought I'd put in here because there's no reason we can't do the same.
... & Derrick Moore.
